Really nice/interesting Reddit Comments About Gaga's National Anthem

Because I think we need some positivity today, here are some really nice and interesting comment from Reddit I found about Gaga singing the National Anthem:

I saw her live a few years ago and I was very close to the stage. She played a lot of stuff on piano and I was moved to tears. The guy I was with, he wasn't really a fan of her before but he leaned over and said, "Thank you for taking me here. This is one of the best concerts I've ever been to."

She's incredible live! And I've told people this so many times throughout the years, even to one person who said, "Being a good performer doesn't make you a good musician." Well, yes and no.

I have a lot of respect for anyone who can come out and entertain an audience live. That takes a little something extra.

And when that person can sing the ****ing national anthem like that? One of the hardest songs to sing? Come on.

You should have heard the crowd at my sister's house. Lots of "oh man, she's going to come out dressed like a ***** and make the anthem sound like total ****."

I quietly told my wife that I bet it was going to be really tasteful and impressive, given her talent. Then we got to smirk at each other while my brother in law had to admit that it "wasn't bad."

True confessions.

Up until last night, I denied her talent. Not because I listened to a big sampling of her music and made a judgement, but because I heard a couple of her radio hits, and logged her as a run of the mill pop star trying too hard to sell her brand.

It's not like I went around trying to convince people she was an awful singer . But I did have an opinion of her talent.

Last night, I changed my opinion. Her performance of the national anthem was beautiful. Like "stop what you're doing and pay attention" beautiful. I still don't like the style of her album music that much, but I will never again believe that she lacks talent.

I was so excited to prove the company I'm with wrong. They were so sure it was going to be pop star flashy bullshit, and I knew she was gonna kill it. She's awesome!

I think the real brilliance of this performance is that she timed the octave dips and bobs flawlessly, and she evoked reverence. She plays splendidly on emotional response.

It was hard not to think sentimental, American sorts of thoughts hearing this, because those kind of sudden breaks in tone and note cause an internal emotional reaction and it kind of echoes in a lovely way. That's the real essence of genius I think, the facility with finding that emotional response and touching it just enough

My wife forced me to take her to a NKOTB concert a few years back and Gaga was the opening act. She was filling in for whomever was supposed to open and no one had ever heard of her. She absolutely killed it and at the very end of her set she faced the crowd, said "You just witnessed a star" and literally dropped the mic and left the stage. A few months later she was everywhere, guess she was right :).

When we saw it was her singing it my family and I thought "are they really going to let her ruin this..."

Then she opened her mouth. And we shut ours.

By the way, I loved the Bowie tribute :flutter:
