giskardsb 12,565
Since the passing of the ARTPOP era we have had a Gaga experience where she has fit more into expected norms than ever. Classy outfits, pure vocals, endless praise from media and everyone. Certainly this has done much to remind people that the "crazy" person has substance underneath, and has greatly increased her public appeal and career opportunities long term. She has laid a lot of groundwork for her future. I think the fanbase though has maybe gotten a little too comfortable with the endless praise. This is evident by some being deathly afraid that she would get negative reaction to the Bowie tribute, and people being nervous about how "The GP" reacts to Gaga in almost everything she does now. Fans are worried she'll do something to rock the boat of public opinion away from her again, and hate to see anyone dissing on her. The truth though is that Gaga is best, particularly as a pop star, when she is polarizing and subversive. Gaga needs to be the pop star that pushes people out of their comfort zones, makes people think of fashion in a different way, writes songs that are out of the ordinary for a pop star, pushes her activism into her music, and generally just lets her inner creative freak fly. If Gaga is not getting "hated on" by half of the general public, then she is probably not pushing enough boundaries. Dark, subversive, Gaga, is the one that gives notice to the pop industry that the outsiders have a voice, that conforming to expectations can be a hindrance, that we need the creative out of the box thinkers and "weird" people in order to push society forward and make the innovations. Gaga is not the pop star for everyone, and she shouldn't want to be or try to be that. She's the pop star for the weird people, the popstar for innovation, the pop star that is not afraid to think big and sometimes fail, but always push her and the people around her to new boundaries. I personally hope Gaga doesn't play it safe this next pop era. I like all styles of music so I'll probably enjoy musically whatever she puts out. But as much as I would love a serious musicianGa album, I think pop music seriously needs to be shaken up by Gaga again. That is what she is best at. And if haters and "The GP" don't get it, well, it's their loss.

Quartz 12,620
Oh she's like Buttercup, she builds her reputation for the GP and then she tears it down and turn it around Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊
AlexanderLevi2 5,849
We need to stop worrying about the GP!!! I don't want Gaga to kiss their ass. Controversy but with a side of classiness. Mister Gaga 22,996
Brilliant post As soon as gaga releases LG5 lead single, we will read HUNDREDS of comments on fb that will say "she's weird again? attention seeker" and all that stuff. Just to quote you: I think the fanbase though has maybe gotten a little too comfortable with the endless praise. You want LG5? fine then, but you know what's coming. I'm ready for it. But with the difference that now we will say Lady Gaga: Golden Globe award winner, Academy Award nominee/winner, Grammy Award winner for a jazz album. And that's not an opinion, that's a fact. That was different though. People had just fully given up on her then. The GP knows how insanely talented she is now so whenever she gets bad reviews, it always starts with "Gaga is an amazing singer and I'm a big fan BUT...", thereby making it easier for our fragile little stan hearts to handle. She's respected enough now that when she "fails", people don't bash her as hard anymore.

BadKid58 221
Well said. Praise is great and all, but she is at her best when she's polarizing. To quote Gaga: "If half the people in the world don't think you're ridiculous and hate you, you're doing something wrong."
eifulien 3,003
Damn, that's THE perfect wording. Couldn't have said it better! Basically, we don't need the GP or the media or even our own fanbase to put Gaga in a box. She has carved a unique place in the industry. I know that wanting her to always be out of the box is also in a way putting her in a box. But we've had a fair share of projects in 2014-2016 that were aimed at mass appeal. Now we're talking LG5. We're talking about the evolution of the star that sang Aura not Nature Boy. Give me that sexy controversy, Queen. Make them uncomfrotable. Make them wonder again! Fernster7 7,923
Well, I agree with almost everything you said. The only thing I don't like it's the crazy fashion, she's been slaying me with all the classy looks, they are gorgeous, but it's just my opinion. And I also think she should not waste all the things she's been doing to clean her image, she should find a balance, for example last night's red carpet look was Gaga enough but she was still beautiful and kind of classy, that's what I want for LG5. Monsters never die.
