August is next because it has the VMAS but Katy will release her lead single then. I really think she should drop it around the iHeart Radio Music Awards which are April 3rd though so that way she can release the album in May which is a high sales month. If it is a good song with good promo and a well-executed roll out, it doesn't matter if it is released a month from now or next fall. I feel like she was very rushed the last album release it led to last minute decisions; like changing the new single from "Venus" to "DWYW". I feel like her new manager is GREAT! He supports her and is at every event, standing their having her back. I think this new single and album will be AMAZING.
