Carly Rae Jepsen to release another music video - Are you mad @ interscope?

I'm pretty sure a Carly Rae Jepsen video costs a small fraction of the price of a full-fledged Gaga video. Like, hiring Nick Knight, Steven Klein, or Jonas Akerlund is probably VERY expensive. And that's just for a director.

Plus, Gaga definitely has her history of wasting a few coins on vids...#TEOG #DWUW :laughga:

Because ARTPOP didn't lack exposure. Pretty much everyone knows about ARTPOP's existence, people just didn't conenct with the music or it was overshadowed by the negativity surrounding it.

Pretty much this. I was surprised when my one friend (she doesn't even listen to Gaga) knew about the song Donatella Gaga did, since she said some of the lines. I asked her about ARTPOP and she was like "lolno I didn't listen to that, heard it was really bad."

The public had no idea there was such a thing as ARTPOP or a tour artRAVE.  Knowledge of these was spread by monsters to each other and on forums.  That was during the time it was cool to hate Gaga so management and label deemed her a lost cause financially and they both threw her under the bus.  Why spend money on someone people hate?  On ARTPOP release day, there was no mention of Gaga on radio around here.  During that time, the only times announcers would mention Gaga was to make some snide, hateful remarks about her.  During the very time ARTPOP should have been promoted, one radio announcer said to the other "Is Gaga still around".  The response was "I don't know."  And ask the people who live in the cities where artRAVE was.  The public was totally unaware that Gaga was coming to town.  The network of monsters is why the shows were selling out.  Sure, there was some promotion, but it was as minimal as possible.  What we remember is all the talk and hype on GGD and LM and the social networking sites like twitter and facebook.  It seemed like a lot of promotion, but outside our world there was almost none.  Personally, I think there was a plan to end Gaga's career.  Not allowing Gaga to release the singles and videos she wanted was part of it.  I would love to see internal memos from that time.

Cool story bro. Nice little fairy tale. Everybody else here...may believe your bullshit little story, But not me. Gaga got plenty of mention of Gaga on ARTPOP release day on radio here in my area. She got praised around here. And everybody here was aware that Gaga was coming to town. There was a lot of buzz around here. The only artists that get hate on radio in my city is Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber... The announcers make some really nasty, snide, hateful remarks about them. "And ask the people who live in the cities where artRAVE was, The public was totally unaware that Gaga was coming to town"???? LMFAO! GET THE **** OUT OF HERE. What, Did you go all over the world asking people around about artRAVE???? Hahahahahahahahahahaha, Get ****ing real. The public was aware of ARTPOP and artRAVE.

People didn't connect with ARTPOP?? Plenty of people connected with the music. I personally connected with it. It was a great album.

I am not lol, if that album is as great as some of y'all in online forum says, many people will hear it by now. Overrated by the online gays tbh.

Obviously we had very different experiences based on where we live.  My story is exactly how things happened here.  This is not made up either;  On ARTPOP release day I went to my local Walmart.  The staff in the music department never heard of ARTPOP and there were no copies on display.  Then I went to f.y.e, the biggest music store in the area.  I was there when they opened and hung around for an hour.  There were a few copies of ARTPOP on the new releases shelf but no special display.  Not even one person came in to purchase the album while I was there.  I don't call that poor promotion, I call that no promotion.  What I said about what happened on local radio is also accurate.  Just because we had different experiences doesn't mean I made things up.  As far as artRAVE goes, people on this forum were posting complaints that there was no promotion in their cities for artRAVE.  They couldn't understand why.  That's probably a regional thing, but it happened and it shouldn't have happened.

we're at LG5's doorstep already. Please stop debating ARTPOP's mishaps and move on.

artRave wasn't attended purely by her fans who follow what she does, it wouldn't have equaled as many sold-out shows as there were :emma: There were commercials and promo in loads of places, adverts in different languages in loads of different countries, subway stations that had huge artRave posters, etc. Gaga visited loads of shows to perform and promote the album, it was mostly front-heavy and died down after winter 2013 but it was still very much there. You don't get a #1 album in multiple countries and a $80m+ grossing tour without the public knowing of the album and the tour, fan numbers aren't enough to get things that high

Tbh, most people I know who didnt give the album a try was skeptic because of the stigma that came with Call Me Maybe. Like: "oh, that CMM girl? Nothing  good would come out of her."

But the ones that I know who listened to the album all enjoyed it.

It's lightweight and fun with good production and writing. I do enjoy it very much so I don't think it's overrated. Just underestimated.

Why would anyone be mad? AP's delays & problems had a lot to do with internal problems with her team and Gaga herself. It's not unheard of for smaller, more under-the-radar artists to have 4-5 MVs per era, like Marina and the Diamonds or Charli XCX.

Thanks for pointing that out.  There was promotion, but imo not enough, from my personal experience.

I look at it this way.  People have different tastes in music, even different tastes in particular Gaga music.  For example, some love Gypsy, some dislike it.  I think the people who feel ARTPOP is weak musically tend to blame the music for the album's lower-than-expected sales.  Those who love ARTPOP, as I do, tend to blame mismanagement and under-promotion.  It bothers me that so many people blame Gaga.  She is not to blame for the lack or singles and videos and for any under-promotion.  That's management and label.  And if you believe her music is excellent, as I do, then she's not to blame for anything.  This is what I firmly believe.

Yeah I don't think there was enough after the DWUW situation, which makes sense in a way because I'm sure anyone would feel deflated after that :noparty: Hmm I don't think the blame can be solely put on Gaga or Interscope or her manager really, I wish we knew enough to actually know the truth but I guess it's better that some things happen behind closed doors as well I guess :omg: I totally agree that it can come down to different tastes in music when it comes to reasons as to why this or that did or didn't happen in a certain way :)

We may never know what happened, even in Gaga's memoirs.  She is such a kind person who doesn't believe in dragging people, she might not talk about it if she was "thrown under the bus" by people.

You and Michael Woodson got me wondering how promotion really works on the ground.  You guys saw great promotion and I saw none where I live, and I was really looking.  And some people here really were posting about the lack of promotion to the GP for their local artRAVEs.  So is promotion left to local or regional managers?  idk.
