Gaga has the greatest National Anthem of all time

We live in a culture that fetishizes the past so nobody will admit it for another 20 years but it's true. I'm positive that in Whitney's time people were whining that some older singer was better.

This is going to sound so horrible and I'll probably get so much flack for it, but when Gaga dies, I think more people will admit she outdid Whitney. I believe Gaga outdid her.

No, they won't.

Well, I wouldn't say the best, but she definitely snagged the best LIVE. Whitney's vocals were pre-recorded and she lip-synced to it.

Many among the GP on mainstream news websites are already saying this now. What makes you think they won't say it in the future? You just don't know.

No disrespect to Ms Houston, but Gaga showed so much vocal control and at the same time enough restrain while giving the right emotions to that song, she didn't make it a diva show. And it was a live performance..

She did not outdo Whitney whatsoever. Gaga did a great job, but Whitney's was amazing not only because of her voice (despite it being live or not), but also because it occurred right after the 9/11 attacks. It was a historical and patriotic moment for all Americans. Its disrepsectful to say that Gaga's was better. And that is my honest opinion.

Whitney's was 25 years ago.. 9/11 happened in 2001, which is 15 years ago.

The way pop culture works is usualy that when we get a new generation of celebrities everyone will beg to have their old favorites back. While everyone's still hung up on their old favs the new generation is busy planting the seeds for their legacy which never get realized untill somebody even newer comes along. Nothing has ever been instantly iconic for this reason.

I'm not sure about outdoing Whitney I'd say Gaga was a very close second. However!!! Isn't it amazing that in the eyes of the gp, Gaga is actually up there with Whitney Houston??!!!! That is so amazing by itself. The fact that she is even being compared to Whitney is a huge achievement. Especially for her my god.

no shade but Whitney did a great job but her version never does anything for me tbh. My faves have always been Jennifer Hudson, Mariah Carey, and now Gaga.

I thought Whitney did it in '91 though.

In terms of vocals Gaga's was better but Whitney's version had a great impact, it was even released as a single.. and then re released again to help people  cope with 9/11 tragedy. It's hard to outdo that and I don't think Gaga even intended to.
