Unfortunately part of of the industry involves branding, and Katy has a specific sort of brand that she's worked very hard to maintain (like most pop artists) so she needs to be aware what's going on in the media (how are people reacting to her material, what gossip is out about her personal life, how has her latest performance been received, etc). At the very least, it will prepare her for interviews knowing what questions might be asked about her in regards to her career or personal life. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show.
