That masculinity that sort of displays homophobia in itself is on the decline... even so, although many men will, the amount of guys that use axe as it is, isnt THAT high anyways. It makes more sense to try and gain a bigger new group even if that risks loosing a few from a small group and mets be honest, "uncool" guys that fit at least one of the specific things mentioned make up a bigger portion of real men than the small percentage that constantly try to be social butterflies... Maybe not in school years, but i noticed after graduating that people chane a lot. At least 75% of people (including guys) care a lot less about following pre-set standards and accept people as they are more I found im school even small things like what music you listen to is a big deal. Appealing to insecure people and saying "use our product", this time the pandering was just done differently. Instead of making people feel like their products will make you hot, they're saying it doesn't matter if you're hot, as long as you buy their products. Their product is still the thing that validates you. The message "Use our product or your inadequate" is still there. This is fake progressiveness. Its just the way they are. From a marketing stand point I personally do not believe this will affect masculine male sales. If the video catered to only feminine men then yes it will. There's nothing progressive about a product being the thing that gives you a self esteem boost. It's still corporations using people's insecurities to sell stuff. This time it just has an anti-gender role theme. It's just as low as before, theyre just trying to make it look less low. But that's all this is. In the end it doesn't matter how many times they say "looks don't matter" in their commercial, if the message of the commercial is "You're inadequate, use our product", it's still negative. It's still bad for society because it only stands for their consumers. So unless they find a way to not exploit insecure people and sell their product, they're not being progressive.
