imo if you're demanding compensation for something that happened to a now dead and gone ancestor you're just money hungry, doesn any black person in america genuinely think that money will remove history... smh

They already got reparation by allowing to be U.S. citizens (which some foreign people would pay $50K or more to become).

There is no way to accurately compensate the individuals who were harmed by slavery without damaging people who aren't responsible.  Its complete bs to say that America owes black people ...

Additionally some individuals are mixed, others affected more than others. How can it even be calculated if it were to be done?

Not all blacks were affected by slavery either.  Many are immigrants.  Which adds another problem imo... What about the large population of naturalized Americans who's families came to the United States 'after' the civil war ended.?

How would they in anyway be held accountable ?

Reparations are impossible. So many groups would demand reparation. The country would go broke lmao.

Exactly. Too many variables to even come up with a standard for different circumstances. Cant be done

The definition of reparations is: "the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged."

The reason why many people oppose reparations in America is due to the perception that reparations are only about money, when that is not the case. Many people, including young people are also not really familiar with this issue, and I don't really blame them since it is not brought up on a national debate, in school, etc.

The case for reparations can be summed up with this quote:

Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole.

Here's a VERY detailed article making the case for reparations: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/06/the-case-for-reparations/361631/

So it's not just about MONEY.. it is far more complex than that.

I read your article and it's a great read that everybody should check it out!

First of all not being American I didn't understand the struggle and discrimination that went on for so long against Black people so it was a real eye opener and I can understand why they would ask reparation. I know some people say well who will pay and that they aren't the only minority being discriminated but to me that's just sweeping the problem under the rug because it is complex but the more we avoid the less it's going to be something that can be "fixed". Plus does it have to be about money? Not necessarily I think if we looked at the issue we could find other ways too..

One very interesting point in the article was the fact that no studies have been conducted on the issue, it's one thing to say oh well it's too complicated but people don't even want to see what it is really about... that's crazy! The minimum would be to acknowledge the elephant in the room right? Imagine if Germany was like, oh yeah the holocaust? well it sucks but... it's over right? I am not responsible? Of course it's hard to get reparation for everything but still many nazis went to court...justice happened somehow even if imperfect...

And another example is the response of most people in this thread...

Because the media knows he needs black voters, so they ***** out the fact he's not for them to hurt his campaign. That's my theory.

If he is gonna over come Hillary for the nomination, sure.

But if he gets the nomination, I think his campaign will change somewhat because there is no way the black vote will go republican, so he can stop courting their vote.
