This proved to be controversial especially with Ta Nehisi Coates who deeply criticized the Vermont senator and presidential hopeful. What do you think? SassySponge 245
There is not a candidate in this entire race that supports reparations. It's a non-issue. If you want to go about repairing the economic wounds inflicted by slavery, support universal health care and tuition free public college, two Sanders policies that would disproportionately raise up the AA community. LebaneseDude 6,146
This is irrelevant to the elections. No candidate supports reparations nor should they. Edited just now by LebaneseDude.
Woolfsmck 2,763
There is no way to accurately compensate the individuals who were harmed by slavery without damaging people who aren't responsible. Its complete bs to say that America owes black people ... like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. The definition of reparations is: "the making of amends for a wrong one has done, by paying money to or otherwise helping those who have been wronged." The reason why many people oppose reparations in America is due to the perception that reparations are only about money, when that is not the case. Many people, including young people are also not really familiar with this issue, and I don't really blame them since it is not brought up on a national debate, in school, etc. The case for reparations can be summed up with this quote: Two hundred fifty years of slavery. Ninety years of Jim Crow. Sixty years of separate but equal. Thirty-five years of racist housing policy. Until we reckon with our compounding moral debts, America will never be whole. Here's a VERY detailed article making the case for reparations: http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2014/06/the-case-for-reparations/361631/ So it's not just about MONEY.. it is far more complex than that. ▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀▄▀

The victims and who they are are difficult to define since some of the inequities of racism affected more than just blacks. Asian, hispanic, native american, irish, jewish, gay to name a few who have had laws and systemic roadblocks set up to stop them from living a whole and complete existance. Then you have to consider that the entirity of the tax system doesn't differentiate racially in its collections. ...So...? do black tax payers owe victims of slavery ???? I don't see any reasonable solution other than fixing the broken systems best as you can. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still.
