The Push To Get Julian Castro On The Democratic Ticket Has Begun

The president of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Javier Palomarez, will endorse Castro for vice president on the Democratic ticket at an event Saturday in San Antonio. More efforts are on the way.

U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce president Javier Palomarez, who leads an organization that represents 4.1 million Latino small businesses, will say that Castro has the track record, temperament, and experience informed by his background to be named the vice presidential nominee.

“I’m a native Texan and he did an amazing job as mayor of San Antonio, he really put it on the map,” Palomarez told BuzzFeed News, “while simultaneously working across the aisle and demonstrating finesse working with the public and private sector.”

He added that Castro has been responsible for 1 million people living in “affordable, clean housing through his leadership at HUD.”
Castro, who endorsed Hillary Clinton and made his debut as a top surrogate for her at a splashy Oct. 15 Latinos for Hillary event in San Antonio, declined to address the vice presidential talk.

Detractors, and even other Democrats, believe Castro’s experience — he was mayor of the country’s seventh largest city for three terms, but did not hold higher office before joining Obama’s cabinet — will be a factor in whether Clinton would name him vice president if she became the nominee, but she fanned the flames when asked directly about it in an interview with Palomarez the day of the San Antonio event in October.

“I think really highly of him and I’m happy to have his endorsement today,” she said. “I will look at him for everything.”

I legit hate that guy.... Ive seen him on news programs doing interviews and I find him extremely phony (even by politician standards)

Really? I haven't gotten that vibe from him at all. He seems like a really nice and good-hearted guy to me.

His work in San Antonio was superb; sans the public transportation issue. He seems promising, obviously, and a great aid to the Hispanic community, just like Obama did & ultimately ended up becoming the Chief of Deportations

Yea I cant remeber what he said which I know was bad. But I just remember his deposition and it wasent positive

Just really wish presidential candidates selected a running mate on how well they would actually work together - not just to get votes. Sometimes it works out wonderfully (i.e. Obama+Biden) and other times it falls apart miserably (McCain+Palin). There's no doubt in my mind Clinton picking him would be another effort to pander to Latinos and Hispanics.

I still wholeheartedly believe Bernie will win the nomination, and I hope he chooses Elizabeth Warren as his VP. <3

Bernie should get someone from the Black Lives Matter to be his VP, someone well known in the movement, he needs African American voters.

Very true. I don't know about somebody from BLM, just because of the amount of controversy there is with that group, but I agree about an African American person. Not sure who there is of color who is aligned with Bernie's views tho

I'm sure they could find a black politician who agrees with Bernies views who could then go around singing Bernies praises to African Americans.

This might seem silly, but is it appropriate to have someone named "Castro" as VP? Would we have Vice-President Krushchev? Vice-President Mao?
