Amy Schumer has been accused of stealing jokes from three female comedians.
Comedians Wendy Liebman, Kathleen Madigan and Tammy Pescatelli complained the star had lifted jokes from their acts, in a now-deleted Twitter conversation this weekend that was captured by Refinery 29.
While they appeared to backtrack this week, the comedians posted a number of jokes they claimed were similar to those done by the star in her HBO Special, hit movie Trainwreck and Comedy Central show.

Comedy is similar to music in this regard: It is completely possible that two people would come up with a similar melody/punchline without one having stolen it from the other, and you can't necessarily protect against that. It's just something that happens on occasion. And contrary to what Patton Oswalt would have us believe, no, I do not believe that merits 5,000-word-long Salon screeds and profuse apologies.

I'm a fan of Amy Schumer. I think she's hilarious (I have since "Mostly Sex Stuff" in 2012) and I love that she highlights important issues particularly in the area of gender relations.

patrice is a ****ing legend

the vid on vimeo that is now taken down  showed more jokes she allegedly stole for her sketch show. it showed stand up comedians doing their jokes and then played clips from amy's show and they were the same :emma:

it looks bad for her but i wonder if the GP will even care. only people who care about the art of comedy seem to care about this kind of thing like actual stand up comedians will be upset but her sketch show will go on as long as people are still watching.

she defended herself on jim norton's show so i gotta listen to that or her side of it

edit:

the thing with joke thiefs is that usually people point out a couple jokes that might be stolen but i'm like thats only like 5 minutes of material, what about the other 40-50 minutes of funny material they have? it takes a lot of joke stealing for me to no longer be a fan of a comedian thats accused of stealing jokes. robin williams stole jokes for stand up but i still love the guy :laughga:

edit2: :duck:

I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it.

Well, they do seem similar. Too bad if she really does this.

But i will say, even if she does steal jokes, I think she's worth having around to be famous because she is doing a lot for body image issues. So ill take her over that first man in the video who seems to speak disrespectfully about women.

LOL I don't care. She delivered it better. I actually laughed at how she said the joke XD

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

As a comedian you are obviously engaged in other sets to get inspired, I don't see a huge problem here. It's more like inspiration rather than blatantly stealing.

I never understood the hype about her anyway. She's no Wanda Sykes. Now Wanda is brilliantly funny.

Ok, enumerating sexual practices that are somewhat common knowledge is hardly a "joke". That's what Patrice did. Schumer did the same to point out the fact that all these "fun activities" are basically absurdly creative ways to just degrade women...I'm sorry, but this is just an old/hacky "joke"...

But, putting that aside, people think in similar ways! It happens in comedy all the time. It doesn't mean anybody "stole" anything. HOW MANY TIMES were you guys about to comment something here and someone else commented that same thing first???

Frankly, what I see going here is the good old "OMG, a woman has become too powerful, let's bring her down!" - like people did to Whitney Cummings a while ago and the poor girl was devastated and how people try to do with Lena Dunham ever since she became famous...

And Amy has volunteered herself to take a polygraph test, which only goes to show how these accusations are ridiculous...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
