WTF when did I EVER say that? :wtf:

Are your polish family members being racially profiled by cops? Snubbed by award shows? Do most of them live in poverty? Were they slaves? Did they have a legal systematic oppression against them which treated them like dogs? Did they have groups of white men deessed in white who terroized their towns and raped their women? Were they hosed down in the street and killed for looking at a white person funny?

I could go on and on and on. And once again, I have NEVER said that blacks were the only people who were oppressed.

Do me a favor and read the tiltle of this thread. Then read my post. Then do it again. MAYBE that will help you understand why my post only talks about BLACK PEOPLE.

I'm not sure what the extent of my families experienced but I know they were captured by nazis, forced into concentration camps, murders, for nothing more than being polish. Forget whether or not they were snubbed for an award!

Please don't tell me how to read or suggest what I should do. I'm a college educated man with a highly functioning mind. Thank you. But, like I stated, my family did undergo extensive brutalities and murders based off their race.

I, while not based off my race, have been taunted, attacked, bullied, and targeted based off my sexuality. Oppression is oppression no matter what circumstances it might be under.

Is it for being Polish or for being Jewish from Poland?

If you don't mind me asking.

You're not getting my point....

This thread is about black people. HENCE why my post only referenced black people. I'm sorry thay happened to your family. I truly am. I'm sorry whatever happened to you happened to you. But this relative to something to do with blacks. Not anyone else. So that's why my post is only discussing that matter. So I don't understand why you're bringing this up..

You called BET racist against white people. That is one of the most idiotic things I've read here. I'll go to another place, but before I leave I'll have to award you for most ignorant ass of the day.

And I know black people have won Oscars. I'm not 3. But if you haven't noticed, there aren't many roles black people out here. Like at all. Its serious. So networks like BET are here to give those people a chance. So you can sit. Don't get mad and try to call me mean spirited for addressing your ignorant remarks.

Have you ever read BET's history and why it was established at all? I know they are not racist in the way people think of racist, but when you have to build something from scratch bc there was no place in the past, well you own and look at your own awards as something precious. Ok, you whites don't let us join the show, let's make our own show then. I didn't mean the people in BET, I mean BET itself as a thing. To have black people say that the Oscars don't recognize black people so much, when BET was made by themselves to recognize that, is double standard on a systematic level. I agree the Oscars should look at themselves and look at what they are doing wrong and change it to include every minority. Idealistically it shouldn't have to be like that, only one "Oscars" should exist, coexisting with every human.

I reference to that link only to show you that I do, too, know BET has awarded white people. I'm not mad but I find it childish to call me the most ignorant ass only because you are having a bad day bc you are reading what the other people are writing too. I only wrote one post before you called me that, so, please grow up and show some respect. Every person in the world don't think the same way you do, that doesn't give you the right to attack someone in personal way just bc someone disagrees. It's a _discussion_ forum in case you didn't know, so now go have a wank and let your frustration out somewhere else.

Anyone who's taken an American History course would know that America has done a lot of messed up things from The Native Americans, Asians, and many many more. This country has never been equal and probably never will.

So yeah we deserve a BHM and BET  for all the **** that we had to endure. For all the times we were beaten, killed, and destroyed for no reason. If y'all don't like it then don't watch it or celebrate it. Sorry that us being proud of our culture after years of being treated like animals has caused you white people such heartache and pain. How will you guys survive?

The problem is clear. A lot of us are insecure, so like to think up reasons why we're not good enough and when you're not white, well...it's just too easy to blame it on that. But that's far too simplistic. When a white person fails to get recognition, they beat themselves up over it. We tell ourselves that we're not smart enough, not talented enough, don't have enough qualifications. And some of those things might be true, so we work on changing them, getting better. But when a black person fails to get recognition, they have a tendency to blame it on racism holding them back, there can be no other reason. If you believe this, you're either massively insecure or you're far too arrogant. If you seriously believe the only reason anyone could dislike you is because they're racist then...it's time for some soul searching. If you can't come up with undisputed evidence and spout nothing but speculation, you can't go about crying wolf whenever you feel like it. One of the many downsides that racism has brought is making certain people within minority groups have (ironically) superiority complexes. They love any excuse to trash a white person, even if it's for no good reason. They think you can't be racist to whites. They think every job they've ever been refused, the reason behind their poor lifestyle, etc. is all down to white discrimination. They think racists are the only people who could possibly dislike them. Well, with someone like this, it's not easy to work out why they're disliked.

Stacey is being completely right - there should be no picking and choosing when it comes to equality. You either want to be equal or you want special treatment for being oppressed. Equality doesn't mean your life will be perfect, it means you'll be held to the same standards as the most powerful group. When the Oscar nominations come out and there's no blacks nominated, you can't complain anymore, because everyone's equal now, therefore, it was just one of those things. I say the same thing when feminists seem to think gender equality will mean women will have perfect lives. No, it means we'll be held to the same standards as men, and that's when we're going to find out how tough men can have it and how sexism works both ways. Basically, if we're all held to the same standards, there'll be less need to cry "discrimination!" unless you have credible evidence. It all comes back to what I was saying yesterday - I swear some people just like being oppressed. They want to stay that way. Because it means they feel special. It means they can sit around complaining and not try to make a change. It means they can blame everyone except themselves.

Complaining because you didn't get an Oscar nomination really is the definition of first world problems no matter what race you are. There's millions of people all over the world who wish this was at the top of their complaints list. White privilege my ass - if no Oscar nomination is your biggest complaint, I think you have plenty of privilege, even if it's not white. Working hard and not getting recognition for it...we've all been there. It's called LIFE.

:applause:

Well obviously you're far from the most ignorant ass. I apologize. But your mentatlity is just all wrong completely. BET was created to give black families something to watch and enjoy after being told that we're lest than. Maybe you should understand that. White people will never be oppressed. Ever. But anyway I apologize again, that's why I don't even want to discuss this anymore.

What is this DISGUSTING color blind rhetoric being thrown everywhere :wtf:

People need to stop acting as if your "opinions" just exist in a vacuum of "all is fair and good and innocent" or "this is just rational; it's common sense!" when most of the ones here actually FUNDAMENTALLY misunderstand the issue in the first place, like what :duck:

Like seriously, LISTEN to People of Color and their experiences before you hold your ill-informed opinions as sacrosanct :smh:

(Also, obviously some black people and people of color HAVE internalized racist beliefs or they themselves don't understand issues that affect MOST black people. Privilege is intersectional. There are rich, black republicans but it doesnt mean that Republicans dont tend to put black people down economically with their policies and that they aren't oppressed :laughga: )

Anyway back on topic more directly, She's wrong. Compartmentalization is alright. Its not "segregation" ( :smh: ) to have a separate month to talk about Black History, its a reaction to the fact that "White History Month" is all year round (including during Black History Month) and that currently black history IS severely ignored. This in no way is "Segregation", its a specific, focused approach to solving an issue of perception in many parts of the world. Ideally, we would study black history as a general part of history, and history would not be so biased towards white people, but getting rid of black history month only hurts the progress.

Besides, its already a bastardized, typically watered down representation anyway :smh: Black History is SO much more than "slavery, then the civil rights movement and now there's no racism! /s " :air:  Im ill-informed as to what people in Europe and Asia learn about Black history tbh too, I only know the American version :emma:

You're architects of your own suffering. And JPS boycott is still stupid.
