Elton John Is Wrong. ARTPOP Is Not a Bad Album

Elton is entitiled to his opinion.  I don't think he meant the entire album is bad, and based on that interview I tend to think he thinks a bit too much about the commercial success aspects of an album vs pure artistic statement.  Gaga put her pain into ARTPOP, which is just as important as trying to write big hits.

ARTPOP  is like every Gaga album... brilliant and yet flawed.  I'd love if her next album is a huge artistic and commercial success, her own personal Rumors or Tapestry or Jagged Little Pill.  However, I'd also love another extemporaneous, straight from the brain and heart semi-surrealist Gaga adventure that is a commercial disappointment.

Every Gaga album has stuff I like and stuff I don't, and I don't really see that changing.  I just want her to put her heart and soul into it.

But mostly I really would love to see her perfect her songwriting and show off some of that piano ability.

I just feel like ARTPOP was rushed tbh. It lacks something, and I don't even know what it is.

One factor would also be the promo. Had it been only 1 or 2 singles then an album drop, reception would likely be better. However, we heard almost half the album because of Swinefest :emma:

I think she just liked to go dark and how she worked on The Fame and The Fame Monster

It's quite clear Gaga's favorite album is TFM

Oh yes, she's stated that exact thing multiple times. So clear.

It's the execution of the era that's bad, not the album. ARTPOP > BTW but that's just my opinion

My opinion : I love ARTPOP more than BTW BUT to me BTW has been more worked and it easy to hear that Gaga involved herself a lot more in BTW music and its creation.

So yeah to me BTW is better in quality than ARTPOP, but I still love ARTPOP more :yay:

The lyrics are silly and cringey. The productions were recycled or the songs were overproduced. The visuals and marketing were off putting. And everything together it was a mess.

Hear me out, I am not hatin' or trolling. I'm one of her biggest fans as a fellow artist:

To be frank, ARTPOP was a huge disappointment to me, because it lacked the radical and political undertones that always gags had in her previous alberms. We now are aware that the original ARTPOP was scratched by her label, and she had to make a new album in record time. She had to. It was not a true artistic decision, but she pulled through! :applause:

There were some good tracks in it, like:

1. Venus (criminally canceled as a single -- AGAIN),

2. Mary Jane Holland (underrated as **** -- it was the new Heavy Metal Lover)

3. Aura (but the demo version -- AGAIN a ****up by the label to change the vocals)

4. Applause, I guess. I didn't like it that much because it is kinda old-school gaga. Just a song 'designed' to be a hit. Plus too self-referential, even to  me which I love self-references as an artist myself.

5. G.U.Y. -- A combo of Alejandro and Just Dance. Nice for a taste, but it doesn't have longevity.

6. ARTPOP -- What an excellent song. I am happy that the fanbase recognises this.

BUT, (and this is a big butt), even her worst album shits all over the best albums of her music peers. With exceptions of course like Adele or the late Amy Winehouse.

********** Gaga's "worst" >>>>> other artists' "Best"  **********

I also belong to the minority that thinks that Gibson was an extremely talented choreographer. Gaga's choreos were iconic, because Gibson incorporated elements of Contemporary Dance into their routines, way before Sia made it more mainstream. These choreos were iconic, and easy to imitate (and so much fun!).

I wonder if they can work together again, although I'd prefer gags to not dance so much anymore.

I would like her to adopt a Freddie Mercury approach to her stage presence. Focus on singing and music and piano, but dance with passion on stage only when she feels like it, improv style.

ARTPOP as an era was a bad idea, but is a good album. Gaga won't admit it wasn't good NEVER. That woman is stubborn as hell.

I don't think you can really say "the reality is that he's wrong with his comments" because reality doesn't exist when it's opinions like this :duck: They aren't facts

He's not "wrong", it's his opinion. The sooner you come to grips with the idea of subjectivity the sooner you'll stop wasting so much of your time with these endless and pointless discussions.

I'm pretty sure Elton John knows a little more about music than you do, anyway.

He didn't say it was bad though? Saying something is not good doesn't literally equate to him implying it's a sack of sh*t album.

I like ARTPOP, but it's pretty obvious that she can do so much better when you remember what artist released it. ARTPOP, in terms of Gaga albums... is not good.

----------

Also can we stop with accusing every opinion about this album to be about charts? It went #1 in the large markets and Applause had good success, it's far from a "flop."

I find it funny how some members here shade ARTPOP , then say it's actually her best work, then after 2 days change their minds again and say it's awful, probably just because their friends don't like it. Lol.

Anyway, ARTPOP is my favorite album and it means a lot to me. Haters gonna hate.

P.S. Am I the only one who thinks that TF and TFM sound a bit dated and basic compared to BTW and ARTPOP? I'm not saying they're bad, but I think her latest albums outshined them.
