Marriage Equality in Switzerland

In Switzerland there will be soon a vote about marriage equality. If it's accepted marriage will only be between a man and a woman. This initiative would ban same-sex marriage... I'm so pissed off about this. I can't even imagine living in a country that would accept that. Gay people can be in a partnership in Switzerland but I want to have a real marriage... I want to get down on my knee to ask someone to marry me (and not to ask for a PACS...)... I can't believe that a government can bully some his people like this...

I'm really afraid that people would say yes to this... Because the politic party who has proposed that vote is really vicious... They said it's for economical equality (actually in Switzerland you have to pay more if you're married). They want to stop that (which would be a good thing actually) BUT idk why but they have included in the innitiative a line that said that marriage could only happen between a man and a woman... I'm afraid  that people will vote yes because they want to pay less and they will not think about gay marriage (even if I think that more of 50% would say yes to the gay marriage)

(sorry for my english)

pretty sure it will passed

I hope not... :/ I hope that people would prefer to pay more and accept the possibility of gay marriages instead of paying less and writing in the constitution that a marriage could only be between a guy and a woman...

In Germany we can't even vote for it, we don't even have referendums about stuff like this. And as long as Merkel's party is in some form running the government, it won't happen.

Hopefully you swiss use your power and vote for the right thing :ohno:

Switzerland is such a beautiful country. It would be a shame to have such an ugly law ingrained in the lives of people. I pray it won't be passed.

On a side note, Switzerland is on the top of my bucket list! You're so very lucky to live there OP! (With the exception of this law ofc)

I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas.

I see... :/ that's pretty sad! It's really a chance that we can vote for a lot of things but sometimes it's not... Sometimes it brings bad things... But I really wish that this time people will take the right decision! And I hope that later we'll have to vote for gay marriage and that it will be accepted! It's my dream haha ;)

Yes Switzerland is really a beautiful country and I have the same hope like you :)

Yes I feel lucky to live there actually :) It's a greet country and we have a lot of freedom and Switzerland is feeling good economically etc... The only thing that I don't really like it's that there's a lot of people who are voting for the "republican party" (Maybe it's because there's a lot of young adults who are not voting at all :/ ) But it's such a shame that we don't have gay marriage... (We can have a "PACS" since a long time but it's not a marriage)

I live in Bern, I'm 19 but I'm actually Portuguese. I could do the Swiss Pass, but then I have to do the military, so I don't even mind not being able to vote :emma:

I really hope the results are in favor of love and acceptance. :(

Stay strong, OP! Even if they turn down equality now, there's no doubt that equality is where the world is heading. We will all get there one day if we keep supporting the right things.
