'Be Our Guest' Season Finale discussion

tbh, it was an awful episode. Like, I can't believe they're ending it that way. So many loose ends everywhere.... Quite frankly, this episode looked like fan fiction.

It's really obvious they had no idea how the season would end, and quickly patched together a "finale". Definitely the worst episode of the entire show.

By the way what is the difference between Sally's and John's death? they both died outside the hotel.. and Sally became a ghost immediately. :wtfga:

I did not understand the finale! and what does "you've got a jawline for days" mean?

it's the phrase she said when she turned Donovan in the first episode

For me it´s Hotel > Murder House > Coven > Assylum > Freakshow

But it´s somewhat more of a tie between Hotel and MH, don´t really know, but Hotel feels like a more massive version of MH, so that´s why it wins for me, I guess :laughga:

This really was the best season yet, I think, not just because of Gaga, but everything was perfect, the setting, the characters, there could have been better plotlines and some aspects could have been developed better, but there are always things about every TV show that you would´ve done better, so I´m quite satisfied with this season :applause:

Spoiler

Well, maybe except the addiction demon, I wish they dealt with him a little more :toofunny:

i can only really recall like two episodes where "Scary" (and i use that loosely because i don't get scared from tv shows) happens; episode 1 and 11 with sally's disturbing back story. and then other than that, this season just seemed so mellow dramatic and more so like a soap opera. like, a lot of these character's motives for being the way they are don't  really seem believable, or even logical. gaga's character i feel saved this season, even when her delivery and dialogue had many flaws, but to be honest, the countess wasn't even as consistently villianous as she should've been. there was a middle lull where she just blended in to the rest of the characters that bordered that line of being just bad or just good, like that stupid episode about her past as an aspiring actress. the coolest character even lost her edge half way through the season because of ryan murphy's obsession with trying to get us to change the way we feel about the characters. like that sub text of the countess stealing children who are neglected, its like no, shes a villian, keep it that way.

idk the promos led to the season being a little more consistently "cool" but a lot of the times it was just very all about self empowerment which is kinda lame lol. this is a horror show.

i will say the music was flawless though. just consistenly flawless, i mean that scene where she (countess) gets shot had a great soundtrack to it and it was a blissful like 10 seconds lol.

Yeah I would have loved a scene with March and the Countess before the end... But I'm pretty it's more because Gaga was busy to other things so her real end is in episode 11...

This whole season could have been better if they deleted all these "bullsh*t scenes" like devil's night and the other first episodes (most of them were just leading to nothing) and used this time to explain the storylines of Gaga and March (after Gaga's death), Bartholomew, Sally... They also should have killed John a few epiosdes earlier, because his storyline was just way too long...

Head Empty

This season had a lot of interesting concepts to offer, but I feel like they didn't use any of it :saladga:. They should have picked the most interesting characters and tell their story in full, rather than using tens of different characters and half-assing their arcs.

The story of The Countess is perhaps the only one that even came close to having a gratifying beginning, middle and ending, but the characters surrounding her - like her blond children, Bartholomew and even Mr. March - all just felt random and didn't have much value. So much wasted potential.

It almost feels like this would've been better spread over two seasons. AHS is known to have many different plots that are seemingly random, but in seasons like Murder House and Asylum it seemed to work out pretty well because the writers gave us the feeling it was all connected through characters and through premise. In Hotel I don't see that as much, and a lot of the main stories only seem tied together because it was convenient for the writers.

Some other points I want to rant about:

Spoiler

-   The John Lowe character arc could've easily existed outside of the whole Hotel/Vampire universe, because his killings are largely isolated from any of the Hotel's storylines - barring the weak relation between him and March. Add to this that his character premise was very predictable and unoriginal, he would need a complete character rehaul or a new angle to make him interesting.

-   Bartholomew could've easily been cut from the season, by replacing his child-like creepiness with the blond children and fleshing them out more. There's nothing they can't do that Bartholomew did in this season.

-   Whereas the Murder House and the Asylum were pivotal to the plot, the hotel was pretty much only there to create a convenient place for these completely detached characters to meet. They wasted the unique atmosphere that a hotel can bring, which means the season could've easily been called "random community".

-   The mystery of the addiction demon was intruiging, but got too little screentime for the viewers to actually give a f***. Either tell us why we should care about it or why he's even there, or cut it completely.

-   Donovan, Iris, Ramona, Will, Sally, Tristan, Valentino and even Liz to a certain extent are not all uninteresting characters, but are too one-dimensional to have unique importance or credibility. The writers had to spell out their importance, rather than having it come naturally throughout the season.

All in all I think this season turned out very weak in terms of writing. There was no cleverness, no weight, no consistency and barely any intelligence in use of subject matter. I haven't watched Freak Show, but out of the other seasons this is definitely my least favorite.

That said, I still enjoyed watching Gaga. She had a lot of ups and a few downs in terms of acting, but overall had a remarkable debut that made me really excited for her next gig.

I'm sorry but the screenwriters are just awful, it's like everything is totally out of place - what a weird finale tbh :air:
