Didymus 34,379
I never understood. I loved the extreme tan, because it was an ironic statement. But most fans seem to take it seriously and say that she "went too far" or looked "ugly" (while I think that was precisely the point). The Fame was all about presenting the perfect pop star, a bit too perfect so that it exposed the dynamics of pop culture and what people expect of them: a living social commentary while benefiting from the standard herself (genius). And of course it was for a photo shoot that is also quite unpopular here: the Mario Testino shoot for V Magazine (appropriate timing, I guess): pics in spoiler below. Spoiler I make this because I saw some members referring to how disastrous this look was the other day, so clearly the resentment still lives on this forum. Which is kinda confusing because when she looks like this, nobody complains: So what is it about this look? Why is this considered too "far" or "ugly" for her when she has, imo, obviously done a lot more to look off-putting? Why doesn't the "she's making a statement" factor work for this one? OmgSum1Actually 3,041
I think we hate that look so much because we cannot imagine her doing that kind of a thing now, but all the other looks - I can imagine her doing it now, even the Kermit dress In the 2014 pic she's not tanned as agressive as before Shameless selfpromo
Diamond Heart 4,400
Because its apparently 'brown face' according to some people Its a great look, maybe not as great during that interview cause the tan was a bit patchy. Its literally in her top 10 photoshoots too. "GGD IS NOT FOR YOU" - Admin

Benji 20,113
I love it It reminds me of that god-awful look that was prominent in my secondary school for sometime of foundation lips that were actually lighter than people's skin. It's like this faux "beauty" revved up to monstrous proportions, it's great. They don't complain about the Born This Way's horns but then she did explain that about a thousand times, this one went unexplained (I think) but it's commentary is obvious. That's a good point.. she indeed didn't explain it. Never thought of a relationship between the two but it's actually convincing because it's true that nearly all of her other intentionally off-putting looks get a free pass compared to this one. 6 minutes ago, Matangi said: I think we hate that look so much because we cannot imagine her doing that kind of a thing now It also gives me the opportunity to reply to you Can anyone seriously imagine her coming out of her mansion like this tomorrow? Well I could imagine her that way easily, just because I think she put more thought in that look than the fake tan one, but that's just my opinion Shameless selfpromo

Stephen 30,423
I don't think it's ugly at all. I personally didn't like it because it was so easy for people to misinterpret as racist, when I'm positive Gaga never even thought of it that way.
