Do you consider Lady Gaga to be the greatest pop act of all time?

Agreed. I think this picture is proof enough.

Not sure I agree with the sentiment but that picture still gives me the chills and fills me with hope for GaGa's future :flutter:

No, not even close.

She is on her way but she hasn't shown nowhere near as much depth and evolution as the greats have yet.

Love your perspective, but I will challenge it... Gaga is not merely "on her way"... she's already there. I 100% believe it. She's the best there's ever been in the realm of pop music. The rest can sit down and bow down. I fully, whole-heartedly believe that.

Also about Katy Perry. She doesn't have the scene attitude and personality to be one of the greatest act. She kinda acts like she's manufactured a little bit. (not a shade tho) In terms of being the legend, sales doesn't matter THAT much in my opinion. Of course you need the stable numbers, but don't have to be number 1 all the time. I remember how during the Prism Era, magazines were saying that Katy Perry is the new queen of pop, just because she reached success with Roar which is immature

I think people are really misinterpreting my comments though.

I'm not trying to argue that Katy Perry is a legend or is going to be considered one of the greatest acts. I don't think she is at all. I would also argue that she is rather manufactured and I find her attitude and her musical input to be rather bland.

With that said, pop is highly manufactured, it's part of the genre. With Pop sales do absolutely matter, it's shallow and it's marketable.

Not a huge fan of Katy Perry and if anybody has read any of my posts in threads relating to her they would know that. With that said, Katy Perry is probably one of the most pure pop acts out there. All the best and worst of pop is personified with Katy Perry. In my opinion Katy Perry is probably a more polished and pure "Pop act" than Gaga. Teenage Dream is absolute pure pop.

Does that mean Katy is a legend? No. Does it make her one of the greats? No. Does it make her better than Gaga? No. Does it mean she is a culturally significant and memorable act? No.

In the pop world vocal talent doesn't matter. Pop is generally marketable and easy to digest. Pop doesn't need to be challenging, different or groundbreaking it needs to be popular.

Not by the hairs on Michael Jackson's chinney chin chin. I think she has the potential to become the greatest or at least a close third.

@Bebe Yes I know you are not putting Katy on the pedestal, I just expanded her subject.

Did you just quote yourself :flop:

Also, not you posing an opinion question and refusing to consider other people's response when the majority does not agree with you. Classic.

She's coming right up there.

I would say right now:

1. Michael Jackson

2. Elvis

3.The Beatles

4. The Rolling Stones

5. Madonna

6. Gaga

I don't mean that as shade. She has roughly 9 years behind her of us knowing her name.

Everyone else on that list has had decades upon decades. She WILL reach or eclipse them, for our generation.

I don't even like lists like these much because I hate pitting artists against one another -- they all shine their own unique and glorious lights. All those artists, I love them. They sing the songs that help me get through my life.

But as far as Gaga goes, she does have a little further to go before I personally would say, "of all time."

Wish I could like this perspective twice!! So true on all points.

I literally linked to an article full of citations of Madonna being called the queen of pop. :emma: Try reading sometime

All the general public who isn't too young to know her recognizes Madonna as the queen of pop.

Only half of your response appears at first, which leads me to believe you're editing them after you post them. (?) So its not that I didn't read them, they were not there. No need to be catty and condescending..

I just read the link you posted, and according to the page, the following are all the Queens of Pop: Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Lady Gaga (also "New Queen of Pop"), Kylie Minogue, and Britney Spears--I'm unsure how this supports your argument..

Again, the age argument. I doubt that is true; I recognized Michael Jackson as the King of Pop even prior to his death. I knew Elvis was the "King of Rock and Roll" before I turned 10 and I didn't even have an appreciation for him then. I knew Donna Summers was "The Queen of Disco" in elementary school and so did many of my friends. It was simply general, recurring knowledge. Like the source you showed me above would indicate, out of fall of the people I've asked, the opinion on who "The Queen of Pop" varies greatly. Like I said earlier, sadly someone will probably have to die before they achieve such recognition. Madonna is likely to get that title, but even though it is common knowledge to you and others in the pop community, its not common knowledge to everyone just yet. :)

She was never a dancer but she knew she had to dance to attract more people. She was one of the best dancers in the pop star world during the fame, fame monster, and early BTW eras.

Bitch where? :koons: Let's not get carried away.

I love Gaga and she can carry a choreography *okay*, but that doesn't mean she excels at it. She's very far from being an impressive dancer. You can't even say Gaga was one of the best pop dancers in the mid 2000s when we still had Madonna, the BEP, Justin Bieber (no matter how much you hate him, he's a good dancer), Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Ciara, and of course Beyonce.

Very true, sis!! Gaga has a lot of ground to make up in the realm of pop dance prowess. But "Born This Way" video was a great start.
