Why do we care so much about the commercial success?!

It's obvious that we all want Gaga to be successful,happy etc. But I see that a lot of fans (actually most of them) judge an album based more on the commercial performance than its music.(ARTPOP is the first example that comes to my mind).  And don't give me sh*t answers like "We won't get many singles if the album flops" "We won't get nice videos" because there are so many artists that sell x100 less than Gaga,Katy etc. and still manage to have brilliant video clips (Kerli for example). Do we really earn anything (or Gaga herself) if she is selling 15m instead of 3m? In both occasions she is SUPER rich,really successful,has a lot of fans etc. My guess is that most people want Gaga to be successful just because they want to have the right to drag every other artist and fanbase (that we can't do since the ARTPOP era because Katy outsold Gaga).Because until 2012 monsters were the most annoying fanbase that would drag and hate on every artist because Gaga could sell more.

My point? We should start focusing more on the music and be more objective about it instead of caring more about the first week sales and the peak of the lead single.. Of course I do care about the commercial performance of her album,I do buy her albums to support her but we shouldn't be obsessed over the commercial performance.Because it makes music lose its meaning.The fact that 25 or 1989 sold 10 millions doesn't really mean that they are the best albums of the decade  (Even though I do love both albums)

I think also people want Gaga to be successful because they use her as a projection device: if she's doing well, they feel better about themselves because they are somehow linked to someone who embodies success for them. Quite sad, really.

But as Emma revealed in 2013 as this forum nearly sank: "If you're just here to ride on Gaga's success train, she doesn't even think of you as a fan."

Lbr tho this forum cares more about dragging Katy than discussing Gaga's work in a more-than-superficial way. My advice is just to enjoy the music on your own and let go of the idea that this place is used to discuss Gaga. It's not, it's used to discuss why Gaga is better than anyone else.

I cared about it on the ARTPOP era too because she was really sad about not selling enough and people started to hate her cause of that.It's crazy

It's clear. If LG5 flops we won't get 5 high budget MVs like Taylor Swift, also the tour stage and decorations would be cheaper I think. The tour might be flop as well, so she doesn't have money to pay for dancers, great lighting etc. Simply like that

I'd rather take the muddle ground here than take any obvious sides.

Sucess, great success, will help an artist to get much more promotion, and easier for them to fight for their artistry in the long run. Why do you think Gaga can di whatever she wants with Born This Way album?? That is because the success frim The Fame and The Fame Monster.

I dare say she will not ever approved to song about controversial subjects in BTW if the two predecessor albums weren't as succesful.

Seriously, take a look around, how many non popular new artist managed by major labels who can have freedom as Gaga has circa 2011-2012??

Also, success will help artists to get much more budget for music videos, whatever they want they can get!

 

However, what is not healthy is the obsession with success. To the point people will blame the artist and easily ignore their hard works, or disagree with their choices, when they are performing poorly on chart, now that is not cool, at all.

I don't think she was sad about not selling well, I think she did just not understand why and what had changed. I guess she was sad for deeper reasons such as her chronic depression, the tensions with her manager, her still-painful hip, etc...

I simply dont care about sales. I just know that she's the best in mainstream bussiness. I want the world to know her as much as I do, and I hate seeing other fanbases saying that their idol is the best when they can't even write a song or sing live, this needs to end. They need to know that Gaga is the best artist out there right now. If commercial succes is needed to mprove them that Gaga is better than anyone then...

Cause they want receipts to shove up in other fanbase faces.

I mean look at Swifties (not all of them) , every time they time they try to bring Taylor down they bring up the receipts and chart success achievements. Monsters did that too and still continue to do it.

Music is much more fun when you just enjoy it and don't bother about these stuff, but we are in a pop forum so of course things like these will be discussed too.

Do You have a psychology degree? If not, then I don't think you're qualified to go around giving diagnosis.

Stanning is not exclusive to music. It can be anything from your favorite sports team to your favorite restaurant. And at the end of the day, if you stan something you want to see whatever it is be successful.

Now. are some people over the top when it comes to success? Yes. Do some people project their own issues into their faves? Most definitely. But I'm sick of y'all trying to throw "because they're a bottom and gay and like daddies blah blah blah" as some weak shade. That has nothing to do with why some people are obsessed with charts. Maybe they just like statistics. Maybe they just genuinely want Gaga to be successful. Live and let live.
