Ariana Grande's Singles Performances

It really is shocking that Ariana needs all these features to get a hit. Focus is her only top ten not to have a feature. But that doesn't mean that things are about to change because that song can hardly be called a hit. A top ten peak is meaningless if you only hold it for one week, debut with poor sales and then fall dramatically after that. Vevo views are very misleading these days - having a video at 300 million views and 2.2 million likes after 3 months means nothing anymore. So many songs these days acheive this status and greater when they're not even hits in the broadest sense of the word. The sad thing is, her label probably thought this was going to be the album where she didn't need to rely on features, that she'd built a solid reputation and fanbase that would ensure some hits that were completely solo. Which means that at this very moment, they could be ordering her to make some more collabs or turns solos into collabs. I think it's accepted by this point that the album was indeed delayed due to the unexpected flopping of Focus and things are being changed as the label go into panic mode. If we're on album #3 and we're still relying on features to carry a song, there's trouble ahead.

It's a pity because she does have talent, at least for singing (most of her songs get written for her). There are much more untalented people than her out there who have no problem getting #1's and millions sold and completely solo at that. I don't get it because Ariana seems to have that x factor that makes a star. Why isn't the world making a bigger deal over her? She's young, hot, can sing and makes mainstream pop music. Where's the usual support? This is what I'm saying when I made that thread asking if sex appeal is no longer selling like it used to. Ariana would have had no trouble selling back in the 90's, when the likes of Britney, Xtina and Mariah ensured that a beautiful young girl with a catchy song (and a good voice, in some cases) is a killer combination for success. The world just appears to be moving past this traditional mould now and wants something a bit different, it seems.

Bang Bang is Jessie J's hit tho.

Yes it is, but what I know is that it serves as a single for BOTH albums and BOTH artists. That's why they count it as one of each their videos in their videographers or songs in the discographies. In addition, the song was recorded by Ariana first alone then she forgot about it. Later, he record label played it to her with Nicki Minaj, Jessie J and her vocals. So It's Ariana's song in the first place.

And lbr, Bang Bang wouldn't be a hit without Ari or at least Nicki. Jessie never had a hit yet after Bang Bang.

updated. The revised point system, where digital sales were given more points and streaming had points taken away, severely maimed "Focus" as it drops to #89 from #51. The song was surviving on streams from the video. It won't reach 20 weeks on the chart now, and it may not even make 15 weeks.

TBH it's a disservice to the artist to take away streaming point and add them to digital sales. Digital sales are becoming irrelevant and the future of music is now streaming. Why don't the just give tangible CD singles a rise too? lol

"Side to Side" ends its run in the Top 10 this week. Spending 14 weeks in that group. Her third longest charting song in the top 10 after "Problem" and "Bang Bang" (they spent 16 weeks each).
