I agree. The production on that song is pretty good though it makes me wonder if Zedd also mastered it or not. He produced Donatella but it was before they even worked together. It's not mastered very well and in the last chorus, the vocals are super loud and you can even see it in Audacity. Basically I just think a lot of the songs were also not mastered well. I hear EXACTLY what you hear on "Donatella"!! Never commented on it before, but you're totally right.

A beautifully played piano, a fantastic bass synth that doesn't belong in the song at all but actually manages to sound like a part of it as it sounds rough (it completely "fleshes out" the lyrical content of the song), gives it a very fresh sound, and the reverb/echo. Although in my original comment here I was talking about the overall songs, AP has much more going in it on the production side. DWUW, Aura, Applause's instrumental is almost infectious, SD and even songs that I don't personally like, such as Donatella, MJH, Swine, Fashion or G.U.Y., have solid instrumentals. The vocal filtering could be so much better in the songs that have it but it is ok. I will say that the lyrical content is underwhelming in most of the songs though. No what I'm saying is the bass synth is shitty and really doesn't fit with the song. Anyway, like you said, it's simplistic production and it can't really showcase the production of the album at all. I don't know, I just always feel like there's something missing from all those songs. Also like I said in a different post, the mastering also really effects how the songs sound and turn out and I don't like it much either. hop on that **** like a maniac

I won't say it's better than Born This Way but it is a brilliant album. AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I was just expecting something more dark-EDM and experimental. Sometimes it's too bubblegum for me. I was also hoping for instrumental interludes and extended songs so it seemed more like an electronic symphony (the song has an outro and eventually turns into the intro of the next song) than a pop album. But im not mad with the outcome. Most of my friends say it is her best album. One of my friends thinks it is clever, intelligent, and amazing. All they say about the success of the album is "Why wasn't it bigger?" One of my friends also said "I didn't hate The Fame but it just seemed like commercial pop. I fell in love with her when she came out with Judas and think ARTPOP is insanely good." Although I do eye side her for dissing such a pop masterpiece such as The Fame. EDIT: The charts drove the dislike of the album tbh. All my general music listener friends love it. And I think the GP would have been the same if there was better management. Seeka 12,372
Everyone probably likes the album but hates the handling of the era and how nothing really went right and how it stopped doing well on the charts, essentially. I do think it's a great album myself, when it comes to writing and such. But I value VERSES, over choruses, which is something you're not allowed to do in pop music. We have different taste then, I think it (the synth) and her raw vocals are "Dope". Simplistic or not, the production is there. The reason why it can't be used to showcase the production of the album is because there is nothing similar to it in it (AP). It feels out of place, as does DWUW, SD and Venus to some extent. Overall you could say the album lacks cohesion but that's not a lack of quality. it wasn't laaaahv

Overall, I don't find the production of "Dope" to be noteworthy, but I do find it to be one of the most remarkable recordings of her career. It's incredibly raw and vulnerable. And you hear all of that in her vocals, lyrics and piano playing. It's flawless exactly as it is --- understated and all.
LaLuna 12,732
At this point, I just want LG5 to come out so people can shut the **** up about ARTPOP already. Honestly, it's been over two years. P.S NO, it wasn't a bad album.

Yes, and the lack of promotion hurt it badly. I was at Walmart on release day of ARTPOP. It was not on the shelf and the staff in the music department never heard of the album. Then I went to FYE where there were a few copies on the new-releases shelf, but no special display. I hung around a long time and nobody came in looking for the album. People did not even know ARTPOP existed. I live outside the space time continuum.

Benji 20,113
Every defensive ARTPOP thread is the same Every time "people don't like it because of the sells" when in reality it's the opposite, "it didn't sell because people don't like it" I understand it's your favourite album by Gaga but you have all got to stop being so obsessed with it's perception. You can't shout about how everyone is wrong who dislikes it and the sells are influencing opinions or that people don't "get it" because that pretty much contradicts the typical next line explaining how none of it matters, because you just wrote a thesis on how it does to you. Personally, I like ARTPOP. It's not her best body of work, in fact I think it's the weakest album she's put out so far but I still like it.

But you do realize that business is not solely based on the quality of the content. Success is usually based on the success of the marketing (The four P's of marketing). Yes, quality counts. But the management and promotion could have been MUCH better and it would have increased sales incredibly. On pop forums, we only see the quality aspect of the album rather than the whole picture of the business. Do you think if ARTPOP outsold BTW, we would be seeing threads saying "Is ARTPOP overrated?" I doubt it. And yes, you can have your opinion of the album. But you'd be surprised what amazing marketing can do for crappy content (no tea, no shade to you know who) Currently listening to Joanne
Princess 78
I personally love the album, Do What You Want is one of my top 5 Gaga songs. The era was just very messy with the album sales flopping and what not.
