Lady Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta has evolved from the biggest pop star in the world, to singing jazz with Tony Bennett, to acting in FX’s American Horror Story- and she is turning 30 in three months. She is so young, yet has a lifetime of versatile achievements, and has the spectacular professional successes (six Grammy awards, extraordinary album sales) and failures (third album was critically panned and sold significantly below expectations) that come with that. While many chart topping artists and their record companies are try to create what they believe people will buy, Gaga refuses to create anything that is inauthentic or forced. In the past two years, the sales of her third pop album were far below expectations; she switched genres and made a critically acclaimed jazz album with Tony Bennett (which won the 2015 Grammy for best traditional pop vocal album), to doing a critically acclaimed acting performance on television. Everything from her hairstyles, to her fashion choices, to how she expresses herself on stage manifests who she is as an artist. Her physical person and career are a complete reflection of what she is thinking and who she is at the time. She lives her life without fear, and with passion for everything she pursues. freebit 6,240 Posted January 1, 2016 Share Posted January 1, 2016 If AP era taught me anything, it's that perception is everything, because having a number one album and opening around the same numbers as her peers (with a decent critical consensus on MC) is still regarded as this huge Glitter-sized disaster. I see why this is always dramatized as it makes for an interesting arc to her overall story as an artist and celebrity, especially since her personal life is otherwise mostly non-scandalous, but I'm so sick of blogs & media exaggerating the hell out of it. It was not a resounding smash, but it wasn't this giant failure either when you look at the receipts (decent numbers, successful world tour etc).
