People don't need it to live ethically and forget that rules like "don't kill", "don't betray" etc. are not invented by religions, they are appropriated thousands of years ago by them.

Religions simply exist because of money being taken away from believers, as it is with everything.

Wouldn't that be too drastic? Too selfish? How about wishing that religion was universally practiced differently so conflicts like these wouldn't happen? If somebody isn't forcing their views onto you, then are their beliefs really your business?

Because religion is a tool that can be twisted to fit malevolent agendas, due to the interpretable nature of religion. Incidents like these say more about humanity than religion, honestly. If the person is "evil," then the way they practice religion is "evil." If the person is "good," then the way they practice religion is "good." If religion was removed from the world, people would just find other excuses to justify their actions.

IDK about y'all, but I don't know any religious person who'd kill someone then keep their body in their house as a "shrine from God." FYI, this isn't normal behavior under any circumstances in this country. May the victim rest in peace.

OT: I live in Arizona and this doesn't surprise me one bit.   At least we have some bomb ass Mexican food here though, that has to make up for some part of it right? RIGHT?

Last I checked, it's humans that commit the "inhumane" practices not the religions themselves.

My mother's a devout Christian. She doesn't commit these "inhumane" practices. Why are you lumping her faith along with those who seek to harm others?

People using religion as a channel for their own hatreds and prejudices can just as easily use another construct to do so.

Side note: Comparing religion to Hitler is incorrect. That's an anecdotal fallacy.

You compare religion to another construct like governmental ideologies.

For example, democracy can be a very good form of government. It can also be easily corrupted and exploited.

The same train of thought can be applied to religion.

Religion can be a unifying factor among peoples like no other. It can also be served to divide them.

It all depends on how people choose to express it.
