Melech 9,900
"A new audio statement released Saturday and attributed to the Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi threatened attacks against Israel, saying that "ISIS will soon be heard in Palestine." "The Jews thought that we forgot to Palestine and that they had diverted our attention from it," said Al Baghdadi in the recording posted to social media outlets. "Not at all, Jews. We have not forgotten Palestine. Allah will not forget it. Soon soon, with Allah: Listen to the boiling emotions of jihad fighters," he added. "We will soon meet in Palestine. Israel will pay a heavy price." "Palestine will not be your land or your home, but for you it will be a graveyard," Al Baghdadi declared. "Allah has gathered you in Palestine so that the Muslims may kill you.” In another video released in November in Hebrew, IS threatened to wage bloody jihad on Israel and called Jews "the grandchildren of monkeys and pigs.” It was posted to YouTube but since taken down from the video-sharing website." http://www.i24news.tv/en/news/israel/diplomacy-defense/96943-151226-in-new-audio-statement-is-leader-baghdadi-threatens-attacks-in-israel Good luck to fight against one of the strongest militaries in the world. The Qur'an is not unified in any way, it is a hopelessly self-contradictory work, nothing more, nothing less. Both "there's nothing violent about the Qur'an" and "the Qur'an is a violent book" camps are wrong tbh. Groups like IS read the Qur'an very well, but obviously in a reality tunnel provided by carefully selected Muslim scholars. The Qur'an is embarrassingly overestimated by critics. It's (the evolution of) scholarship that really should be receiving the most attention.

And also http://edition.cnn.com/2015/02/03/intl_world/amanpour-didier-francois/ A French journalist's ISIS captors cared little about religion, Didier Francois -- who spent over 10 months as the group's prisoner in Syria -- told CNN's Christiane Amanpour in an exclusive interview on Tuesday. "There was never really discussion about texts or -- it was not a religious discussion. It was a political discussion." "It was more hammering what they were believing than teaching us about the Quran. Because it has nothing to do with the Quran." Israel is just like Syria, I bet. They're not buddies with IS, al-Qaeda, al-Nusra etc. but for the moment they actually gain from a "common understanding" between them for the time being. Isn't it weird that people talk about danger of refugees and possibility of IS fighters hiding among them, but here you have IOF saying "In the past two years the Israel Defense Forces have been engaged in humanitarian, life-saving aid to wounded Syrians, irrespective of their identity." So they can treat an IS terrorist but don't hesitate to shoot and kill Palestinians? Like when they executed that 18 year old girl at checkpoint and then refused to give her medical aid. But terrorists' lives need to be saved, right? FreePalestine

IS' ideological dimension is widely studied, but I wasn't talking about IS alone. Qur'an scholarship is inextricably linked with Salafism and the rise of Islamism. IS has a very specific, extremely elaborate religious philosophy that it uses non-stop in verbal and visual propaganda and evidence of religious activity in Islamist groups, even on the battlefield, is abundant. The article/interview doesn't sway me. It's quite absurd to expect that an IS hostage would be given access to the preparatory stages of IS fighters. It's equally absurd to expect that in actual battlefield terrritory IS would put more emphasis on religious chit chat (for which there would in any case be absolutely no point after being trained anyway) than on political strategy. I've spent 12 weeks just now studying groups like IS in university and it's absolutely clear to me that not taking IS' religious activity/background seriously is a willful act of covering up important parts of the picture. Religion and politics co-exist in these groups. The idea that they could (or should) function separately is an exclusively Western idea that just doesn't apply here.
