Voltaire 4,531
It's amazing that the company allowed such free access between campaings, especially since the head of that database is a Hillary supporter. Why wouldn't he want to protect the information? This is such a sensationalized story it isn't even funny. The headline to this thread is even MORE sensational. "The Democratic National Committee just did the unthinkable: Only a few short weeks before Iowa, they've completely shut down the Sanders campaign's access to the DNC's 50 state voter file -- all because of a security error made by a third party vendor. There is simply no excuse for this. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the DNC know who was responsible for the problem, but they chose to attack the campaign that discovered it rather than hold the vendor responsible. And as a result, they've completely crippled the Sanders campaign's ability to do voter outreach in the run up to the first major vote of the presidential contest. This is more than a mistake on the part of the DNC -- it is a direct attack on the democratic process. Tell Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the DNC to give access to the voter file back to the Sanders campaign immediately. The voter file contains contact information about potential Democratic primary voters across the country. Campaigns rely on it to conduct their get-out-the-vote efforts. By taking away access to the voter file, the DNC has crippled the Sanders campaign and its ability to mobilize grassroots activists to identify supporters. The Sanders campaign didn't create a "breach" in the voter file -- they discovered an already-existing software glitch that put their own data at risk, along with the data of other major campaigns. When they realized the extent of the problem, they contacted the vendor, NGP-VAN, to let them know what they had found and demand that it be fixed. But instead of penalizing NGP-VAN for recklessly handling the data of all the campaigns, the DNC is inexplicably punishing the Sanders campaign by taking away their access to crucial campaign data when they need it the most. Taking away the voter file six weeks before Iowa over a vendor mistake isn't just poor decision making -- in the data-driven world of presidential campaigns, this move by the DNC amounts to political malpractice. We need DNC leaders to immediately reverse this disturbing decision before the committee does even more to bring its neutrality in the race for President into question. Tell Debbie Wasserman Schultz and the DNC that punishing the whistleblower is WRONG -- and so is tipping the scale in one of the most important presidential primaries of our time. Stop meddling with the democratic process and give the Sanders campaign access to the 50 state voter file NOW. Thanks for standing up for Bernie, and for fairness in our electoral process. ~ Charles Charles Chamberlain, Executive Director Democracy for America" Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker

Lion Heart 15,041
At issue is a dropped firewall that took place on Wednesday, as the firm that handles the list, NGP VAN, was making a tweak to its system. That meant that the campaigns could see each others’ information. But only the Sanders campaign accessed data that was proprietary. According to people briefed on the matter, four different user names associated with the Sanders campaign conducted 25 separate searches of the Clinton data. A summary of audit trails of the logs show that people with the Sanders campaign searched and saved multiple files, according to two people briefed on the matter.
