Katie14 4,828
This notion has always confused me. I think we can all agree that Gaga is fearless when it comes to her art and music. She is bold, doesn't care what others think, and takes huge risks. So how can that same person also be so damaged and insecure. Do you think she uses all the theatrics and appearance of confidence to mask her fears and self doubts? Kind of like the way a bully makes their insecurities by putting others down. She did say recently that she created Lady Gaga to become brave enough to succeed or something like that. What was the exact quote? What are your feelings about this? Guest
I feel exactly like that, I don't care about the opinion of others but it probably refers more to mental illness & not being able to relate to others, isolation & trauma is the ultimate killer. AlexanderLevi2 5,849
Gaga is a persona. It's just like Sasha Fierce/Beyonce. They create them as a fearless character and not be themselves while on stage. But behind closed doors, they return to their own minds and thoughts. Most people with depression/anxiety/trauma experience this sense of fearlessness to the public eye but lose it at home. I know it first hand. From my experiences with depression and social anxiety is that I don't want people to think less of me or that I'm weak. I want to seem a certain way to people (strong, put together, etc.) so I mask everything so I feel like I'm in control of how people think of me. Then I get home and analyze all of my social interactions and become paranoid/anxious/etc because I think I messed up or did something wrong. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I guess no one saw Madonna's Truth or Dare. Most celebrities have those opposite characteristics. I can confidently say I think Gaga specifically has Bipolar & experiences mania & horrible crashes in mood, these go on for a period of days, weeks, months etc. I always fear that she thinks she's happy but is actually experiencing mania, people during mania have elated confidence & often feel like the have reached a point where their illness no longer is a problem, another illness like this in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. I hope you get/got over your anxieties. But I don't think Gaga has social anxiety. I think she has anxiety about being misunderstood, under-appreciated/under-respected for her talents, and the possibility of never being able to reach her full potential. I think she worries a lot about not getting the opportunities to create and share everything that she has to offer and her visions not coming out the way she intended. And that's what I assume I have as well. My psychologist has named off numerous things for me: OCD, bipolar, ADD, depression, anxiety, etc. I think that's why I connect with her a lot. Seeing that she can be fearless but has problems just like me. Currently listening to Joanne
Seeka 12,372
Human nature, at its base, is contradictory and hypocritical. That is what makes us great creatures. We somehow exists with all this conflicts within us. Not to mention, what people think are similar things are quite different. I can be on a stage, in front of so many people, acting. Meanwhile, in class, if I have to do a presentation, it's a goddamn miracle I'm not a blubbering mess by the end of it. Personal lives and work lives, and the masks we wear can all simultaneously exist, while being completely different. She can have a multitude of different lives. You can't tell me you act exactly the same for everyone. I know I'm entirely different people depending on who I'm with or where I am.

I just gave an example of anxieties in general. I'm sure she doesn't have social anxiety. She seems confident in that sense but I'm sure she has general anxiety. Which would follow a lot of the same patterns. Currently listening to Joanne

Its possible but you shouldn't say you confidently conclude she has Bipolar. She admitted she has depression and anxiety, so I feel like if she has something else she would have mentioned it. Well her changes in severe depression to being happy & also remember those books she read "Just Like Someone Without Mental Illness Only More So" & "An Unquiet Mind" I read them, I am convinced she has Bipolar & Anxiety + Depression are very vague terms especially with all the various variations of the illnesses

Her mind is constantly going, always churning up another idea. I think sometimes she gets lost in her thoughts and starts to lose touch with reality. I think its more likely that she has a form of OCD.
