Madonna hated touring early in her career

Apparently Madonna hated touring early in her career and wanted to become a famous actress. I guess all artists can change their minds. She said she would only tour again if her manager held a gun to her head. She hated the grueling hours.

'Later in the story, she said that, while she planned to make more albums, the rock-star life was too grueling and that her ambition was to be a great actress.'

Did Madonna even care about the music or did she just want to be an actress? Is that why all her videos are have so many nods to old Hollywood films than music? When did Madonna really start to care about music and touring?

Discuss.

Madonna obviously took a quick interest in music because in the late 80s the quality of her music and her tours skyrocketed.

Well its not really accurate to say her true intres was not in music. She did start with music, bands, dancing and musicals.... But she's always been interested in whole variety of forms of Entertainment, acting too. But yeah, I can understand that she dislikes touring as she is a  perfectionist and that takes a loooot of effort.

I think most every singer or musician hates touring. Actual performing is exhilerating, but the long rehearsals, dealing with tech issues, set ups, traveling, etc, especially when you are a fresh new artist with virtually no money, can be a huge pain in the ass and draining as hell. Traveling by bus or van, eating at shitty hole-in-the-wall diners and truck stops with bad food that wrecks your system, little sleep, staying in flea bag motels, ugh. Madonna has a great work ethic but I totally get why should would have hated it. Also bare in mind that at the start of your career audience acceptance, let alone adoration, isn't a guarentee, and the places you perform can be dive bars with cramped space, bad equipment, fickle management, dirty, smelly, etc.

It isn't always glamorous!

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Well touring is all she got now ?

Yeah and that's like the best thing ever right now, given the fact that the entire industry's sales are down (don't even try to bring up Taylor or Adele, those are exceptions) and everyone has to make their money out of tours instead of record sales. Madonna already IS the highest selling female recording artist of all time, what more could she do? In 2007 she inked a major touring contract that foresaw the state the industry is in today. No major sales anymore, endorsements and touring make the money now. So she set up her businesses to be run like that. Madonna makes a record, it gets distributed, she tours it and money comes out of that. Her shows are incredible, no one has a better tour track record than Madonna both in the creative and gross departement. Sure some of her tours have sold out more than others, but her sales have been consecutively amazing. Which got her another accolade in 2009, highest grossing solo artist of all time. So what does that tell you? In a time when record sales were the money maker, she was #1 in that category. Now that touring is the money maker, she also grabbed that and became #1 in the field. Yet again, her strength to forecast the way the industry is changing, got her that incredible Live Nation deal and she's had the creative vision to pull it off and sell out all those planned tours. You can hate her music, her looks, her attitude or whatever, but don't put down her accomplishments. You'd be happy if Gaga or your faves could grab both the #1 touring and record sales Madonna has. Positions she'll probably comfortably have for a really long time, unless Adele can keep this up another 20 years. Be an honest hater if you wanna be one. Madonna's sales and tour gross are undeniably amazing. Deal with it. Mariah, Taylor, Adele, ... All of them have enjoyed massive, massive sales (Mariah sold 80 million records in the nineties) but they still aren't holding a candle to Madonna's sales. Every major pop act has gone on mammoth tours in recent years, yet Madonna is still #1. So where is the truth in your shade? Nowhere...

The truth is her singles charted abysmally and her album sales were laughable to all her other albums. All she has left is her tours. That's undeniable

Touring is what 99.99% of people in the music industry has left and that's even more undeniable!

It makes sense.... Imagine being poor and having to tour for months on end. No amazing catering, no luxurious hotels, no comforts at all really.
