How Do You Monsters Define "Success"?

I keep seeing tweets and such about Monsters calling 2015 extremely successful for Lady Gaga. Why do you say this? Just because she received a few awards? Because the papers and blogger's are kissing her butt again? Why is so much emphasis put on what others think of Gaga? And why do you say this kind of feedback and opinions about her equates to success?

A large part of this fanbase obviously uses Gaga to feel better about themselves. When she's successful they feel successful. That's why there's so much emphasis on it and let's be real, that's a mechanism pop stars actively use to make money.

Because being positively reviewed and marketable IS success, subjective not objective. We (Monsters) don't determine that others do?

Actual success is on paper, in charts, and her being one of the highest paid in 2015... Equates success

Gaga has a career. Her doing well in her career is actually a good thing and feeling happy about her getting press, projects, money, and praise isn't something that's bad.

Kevin Parker, Mac Demarco, Mark Ronson, and a stoned Lady Gaga. Need I say more?

I personally don't care about Gaga's commercial success or critical acclaim. I care, because of her, because she always seems to be in such a dark place when things don't go her way and since I want her to keep on doing what she does, I'm glad when those things are involved. But I personally just listen to Gaga for her music and her performances... Everything else is ephemeral

Every person defines success for him/herself. Money and (critical) acclaim are the accomplishments that our society promotes as main focusses when aiming for success, but that doesn't mean that either of those things are objectively and solely what defines one as "successful".

In the end success is what every individual personally determines. You can have all the money and acclaim in the world, and still feel unsuccessful and depressed (see Gaga, as well as tons of other celebrities); or you can have barely anything and feel like the luckiest and most successful person in the world (through work, creativity, social life, etc.). It's extremely subjective.

I personally think Gaga is most successful when her messages reach a lot of people and make a positive impact. Using her voice in mainstream media to challenge people to reflect on creativity and society. Her speech at Yale, which went viral, was extremely successful. The positive impact she had with parts of Born This Way was extremely successful.

But events like the Oscars and such are great too, because it increases her "credibility" as a smart and talented human being, which in turn gives her a bigger platform to speak up about the things she cares about. So whenever she does something that makes people rally behind her and gets more people to believe in her as a person and as an artist, that's when she's successful to me.

Which is kinda ironic for me, since Gaga's confusion-tactics and shock art aren't always the best means to achieve that :laughga:.

Who gives a **** whether Gaga is successful in sales/streams or not? Success is measured by the quality of music she makes, that's all I care about; the music.

REALITY

Honestly, it's her happiness that makes me define her success. She's said that this year was the year where she truly got to do what she wanted to do, and I was so happy for her when I read about that. If Gaga isn't happy with her career, we can't possibly be happy with her. Not to mention, she's just been having great success overall, and she hasn't even put out an album!
