VANTABLACK 7,793
2016 Oscar Predictions: Best Original Song http://www.indiewire.com/article/2016-oscar-predictions-best-original-song-20151026 Lady Gaga, Oscar winner? The last few years has seen a populist uprising in the best original song category. In 2012, Adele became one step closer to EGOT by winning the Oscar for "Skyfall" alongside Paul Epworth. In 2013, the extraordinarily popular "Frozen" anthem "Let It Go" beat out the mainstream likes of Pharrell Williams, U2 and Karen O. And last year, John Legend and Common won for their "Selma" song "Glory." It seems the days where we'd never heard of the best original song winner are long gone ("Al otro lado del rio" from "The Motorcycle Diaries," anyone?) -- and here are the days when they are #1 on iTunes the day after the Oscars. So how might that shake down this year? It had appeared that the race is a dual between Beach Boys legend Brian Wilson and the powerful pairing of Lady Gaga and Diane Warren, but then Wilson's "One Kind of Love" -- written alongside Scott Bennett for "Love & Mercy," a biopic about.... Brian Wilson -- was disqualified by the Academy. That leaves a lot standing in the corner of Gaga and Warren's collaboration "'Til It Happens To You." Written for Kirby ****'s documentary "The Hunting Ground," the song shares the film's timely, tragic subject matter -- the pain of sexual assault. It's a powerful song from a powerful documentary -- and Gaga certainly matches Wilson's star power. Not to mention Diane Warren has been nominated for 7 Oscars at this point, and has never won. Warren and Gaga's main competition is Wiz Khalifa, who was commissioned to write "See You Again" for "Furious 7" as a tribute to the late Paul Walker and it was one of the most popular tracks of the year. And then there's a trio of songs from the very successful "50 Shades of Grey" soundtrack: The Weeknd's "Earned It," Ellie Goulding's "Love Me Like You Do" and Sia's "Salted Wound." It seems strange to consider the idea of "Furious 7" or "50 Shades" being "Oscar nominated films" but, hey, stranger things have happened. Best Original Song predictions below. Check out predictions in other categories here. The Predicted Five: 1. "Til It Happens To You" (The Hunting Ground) 2. "See You Again" (Furious 7) 3. "Simple Song #3" (Youth) 4. "Love Me Like You Do" (50 Shades of Grey) 5. "So Long" (Concussion)

VANTABLACK 7,793
one thing to consider is if Furious 7 does not get nominated in any other categories except see you again for song, it has a really low chance of winning. whereas if The hunting gets nominated for best documentary and TIHTY for song odds are in our favour. Swan Heart 7,382
I just kind of can't see them giving an Oscar to Furious 7... + the song just isn't good enough for such an award imo Gaga and Diane are the clear winners for me. They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

LoveandMagic 1,731
I know most of us are Gaga stans, but the song isn't just about Gaga, it's about something much more important. For this, I really hope it wins. But at the very least, I hope this exposure gets the message out and continues to spread awareness to a very serious problem in our society. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

Fernster7 7,922
Hopefully she wins, it's not my favorite song of the possible contenders but imo it is the best one. Monsters never die.
