I never got this argument though. Who in the world praises Madonna for being original? She was already criticized for "copying" (and in her case it were more obvious tributes than copying, that's like calling Gaga's purple jacket outfit at the Monster Ball a rip-off when it was most obviously a reference) during her entire career She was only ever praised for being original for her most experimental albums which were ahead of the time in the U.S., mind you. So where exactly does that "I think her originality is overrated" come from?

You'd think people would listen to their own fav Because a lot of people in this fanbase are immature. They can't get over that issue that happened in 2011... Like always they see everything all gloom and doom. Gaga always admitted that Madonna was one of her models and Madonna also praised Gaga many times (even last year when she praised her talent and song writing skills) and she even attended Gaga's shows. Little Monsters seem to forget about this. It's the same for Lana or Katy Perry hate.. They need Gaga to be in feud with someone because they need to hate someone. Unfortunately, Gaga has no feud with any other female pop singer anymore... Too bad for them..
KURUSHITOVSKA 20,442
Have you attended the Rebel Heart Tour? She's not overrated. Go see the show LIVE and tell me that she's overrated. a 57 year old woman with 33 years behind of career. I've attended the RH Tour and she was dancing and moving for 2:30 hours non-stop. Her shows are the best, she was singing live the major part of the show and she even showed a good voice (La Vie En Rose or Don't Tell Me) . Just remember that she made it somehow to stay here and sell out her tours. I can't see any other popstar at her age doing what she does, some are dead bc drug abuse, some are over... And let's not talk about her past, because you just have to think so much to find someone who has made an album just as good as COADF and its tour, or a tour like the Blond Ambition in the early 90s. The RHTour was my first time seeing her live after being a fan for 4 years now, and I left shocked, thinking about how could she do that show. You have no Idea how it's all perfectly prepared. She rehearsed for 2 hours before they opened the gates. She rehearsed herself! She cares about doing the best after all that time. After the show I really understood why her fans get upset when they say that Gaga is the new Queen. And I know that Gaga is the BEST right now, but Madonna's been doing her job for 30 years! She could just sit in her sofa counting millions but she doesn't, she just really loves what she do and doesn't seem tired. You, Little Monsters who hate her because of that """feud""" she had with Gaga years ago have a lot to know. Madonna even attended the Fame Ball and most of you didn't haha. Go and discover her albums, her music, her tours, her videos, and be smart enough to let all non- music-related things behind. If you really care about real artists who work on their own product, you'll love Madonna. ¿Qué currículum tiene ésta tarántula?

It's as if many conveniently forget that she has was not the original progenitor of many of her works when discussing her today. Also I disagree with the "more tributes than copying". For instance blatantly stole ideas from a Lebanese artist called Sabah without giving credit, was sued, and had to settle to avoid the embarrassment if the courtroom. This also happened several other times during her career, and it was before the Internet. It's like how Daft Punk stole the Get Lucky song from that kid in YouTube. Also, the way she treats her work today makes me think she has convinced herself that what she created was entirely spawned from her. Would an artist that based their career on others, later do what she did to Gaga during BTW? I don't think so, especially when it was such a reach. In any case, while she was not as original as she likes to think she is, she should be commended for her success and ingenuity in knowing what people wanted to see, hear, and feel. She is a legend. The overwhelming majority of people who post here are way too young to have an intellectually-informed opinion on Madonna's influence. (Note the use of the word "informed"). And, if one lacks the context to make an informed opinion, one is better off remaining silent on the subject. I don't even like Madonna, and I dislike how she capitalized on Born This Way at Gaga's expense, but I would never ever propose the false idea that she is overrated. She is a pop cultural icon, pioneered modern popstardom, will die as the Queen of Pop, like she is Michael Jackson's counterpart. These young kids are delusional thinking they can say sh*t about her legacy.

You seriously wanna throw Madonna under the bus for stealing ideas without giving credit? 'cause that's what Gaga's famous for and there are plenty of examples of entertainment icons calling her out for it. So I get the argument, but your own fav isn't protected from it either.. I'm trying to find something about Madonna stealing from Sabah but I can't find anything online. In fact, all I can see is that Sabah is compared to Madonna, not the other way around. Nor do I think Madonna would even know about her. It's like when people from Bulgaria or whatever call Gaga a copycat as if Gaga ever paid attention to that country. But since the Daft Punk Get Lucky fake controversy is your other example, I'm guessing you don't really care much about facts or logic The only similarities were the chords, so I guess you think Gaga copied EY too then? Because the people who believe she did use the exact same arguments for Get Lucky. The reductive thing is way overblown too as any sincere observer would note. In the same interview Madonna said she doesn't believe Gaga copied her and they're completely different artists. Because of the edit and the interviewer's question, I actually think Madonna wasn't talking about the composition but the message of BTW. I can't prove that anyway, but I still fail to see how that's relevant when Gaga has called out fellow pop stars for things she didn't invent either. Point being: if you're gonna call out Madonna for not being original, you're handling a very dangerous double-edged sword Just be aware of that. All the typical hater arguments for Madonna work just as good for Gaga.
