Should the music industry stop hiring people like Rihanna?

there is a current trend for talented singers to sing slow 'boring' sad love songs instead of the upbeat *** popping dance tracks. I don't mean boring as in music for grannies, I mean its not a party club banger. Sam Smith makes beautiful music because of his vocals but it is boring in that sense you don't go out and throw back shots of tequila to Stay With Me however he has shown his diversity in Oman and I really appreciate that. 

I don't think much of Bruno Mars- I think he is basic and boring tbh. Pandering to misunderstood and heartbroken women with a nice sounding voice isn't talented to me. Nothing about him is unique to me. 

Gaga well I wouldn't be here if i didn't see talent and she has the Charisma Uniqueness Nerve and Talent that I am looking for.

Even Adele has brought some bops into her album 25 Water under the bridge is an upbeat song and I gently pop my *** to it. 

I am speaking in more of a general sense and that we need a mix of it all so it can all be appreciated.

Whilst they may not fulfil your standards to be an "artist" ... they are great entertainers and that is what the industry needs. Some of the very best writers are awful singers, some of the best singers are awful on stage etc. These guys do what many people can't and that's why they are where they are.

Take X-Factor for an example, some of the best singers fall early because they lack stage presence and that "X-Factor" .... but these ladies don't.

And where is the music and artistry? The x-factor is cool and all but their voices, music, and or performances are usually not.

If Roar sounds like what Katy has been doing for years then your problem is with her and not all pop artists. She also writes her music.

I'm not denying that there is an overall lack of creativity in pop and a lot of it is lazy, but it has always been that way. But I refuse to believe that anyone that is a big star reached that level for no reason. This is all just very pretentious and I wish people would just accept the fact that people have different tastes and there is room for all of that.

All of the things you've said about these artists are the same things that some people say about Gaga. Are those exact same opinions invalid just because you like Gaga?

It's still there? Some of the greatest songs of all time were written by someone who doesn't sing or are covers.

I mean are you going to discredit some of the greatest songs of all time because someone didn't sing it, write it and produce it etc?

Just turn on the radio and just about every other song has the same beat, drums, bass, pattern, and even themes as BBHMM. Nothing original there. And I mention Katy because many artist are like her. They keep releasing unoriginal samey radio friendly music.

The fact that no one is pretending to be Picasso is the problem. Artist now a days just release very basic and unoriginal music to sell lots of records. Music artist are not really artists any more. Their just lazy and comfortable thanks to good looks, controversy, and overall popularity.

I say being a pop star is about so much more than just live performing abilities. It's about sounding good on a song, being marketable, beautiful, inspirational, selling an image that people just want to get more of...that is what it is about. Live singing is a part of that, but it's not the entire deal. Look at talent show contestants with good singing skills but no personality. If people like them ruled the charts, it would be a boring world out there.

But I am not talking about the talented songwriters, or the talented singers, or the talented musicians. If either one of these people lack one of these talents, that is fine, because I least they are talented in one field. I am talking about the very limited or untalented artists that don't have much of anything.

I feel like you're part of the problem. Maybe pop music isn't for you. If you want interesting and groundbreaking music, many underground and independent artists are pushing those limits. If you took your attention away from Billboard and Top 40 radio, you would discover a lot of amazing things that are happening in music right now. Chart artists are actually the minority of music as a broad spectrum. You have an internet connection, there's nothing stopping you from finding music that is fitting this very specific bill that you have of what artists "should" be.

None of that really makes sense. Please give me a couple of examples with the same "drums" and "patterns" as BBHMM. The same themes? So every song now has to be written about something that has never been explored before? Goodbye to Gaga's entire discography, in that case.

Nothing has changed though. It was the same in the seventies, the eighties.... Some people like making pop music because they like to make people happy, God forbid!
