It was received well because that was Gaga's lead single and had a good promo. If Applause was not Gaga's song, it would not even get in top 50 of h100, it's just not relatable

Because when people start attacking what you do in the most personal and unfair way it's a natural reaction to withdraw and focus on other stuff that are not as complicated and that make you feel at ease...? Besides, "blaming" people is kind of a stretch, she was just open about the stuff that happened...but it's hard to say she's blaming people when she defends and stands by what she did... So, no, she's not being petty, despite so many people (including many so called "fans") being so petty to her...in fact, it's surprising how she kept on working! She literally didn't stop: from ARTPOP she went on a tour, immediately dropped Cheek to Cheek, then started working for the awards season, toured with Tony Bennet, started shooting AHS, is now working on new music...so how did she "stop"? MTE!! It's only natural for her to react that way when everybody and their mother was dragging her through the mud. It's a defense mechanism. I don't care what you think about unless it is about me. In fact, Gaga did not want anything to do with the work because the music business was getting in the way of her life. The ARTPOP era wasn't a mess because of the music, as Applause and the hype around Do What You Want attest to. It was, again, because of the music business. Considering what happened to her, I don't think she was petty for ditching the people who were only interested in the music business and not the music itself. She was in a really bad place. Now that she's back in it for the music, she's got nothing to hide nor run away from and this time the music business will serve her and not the other way around. She wasn't petty. She liberated herself. This. As you said, people around her were only interested in the business, not the music. It was so unfair to Gaga to under-promote her music, make bad choices when Gaga had no say in those choices, and mess up what could have been a stellar era. She wasn't being petty at all. I live outside the space time continuum.
djBuffoon 12,123
She's never tried to blame anyone for the music on ARTPOP. She's consistently said how much she loves the album and how proud she is of it. She's never pulled a Lily Allen and crapped on her own songs. The truth is, the album plans fell through. With the exception of Swinefest and the "Applause" video, very, very few aspects of the era went as planned. I don't think I ever saw her blatantly point fingers, but she did explain that there are higher powers at work that she had to battle with to get these things executed. Which, I assume, is very true. We all know what it's like to feel the rush of mass appreciation, and how validating it can be. Anyone who doesn't enjoy having their work/talent recognized.... is probably lying. And it was well-received because it's one of the catchiest songs in years.

Isn't it interesting that all these old topics are appearing and they are so heavy with language you would see at places like ATRL, MN, PD, Exhale, etc? Many of these newbies don't want to talk about the accomplishments of the past year or the ones that are happening now, but want to make some thread that sounds like it came straight from a hater site two years ago. I remember reading twitter Q&As asking her what would've the lead single be if she choose it and she replied Venus.

Coincidence? Lol I've never been to those places, so I cannot comment on the language. However, if it in anyway resembles the mess in the OP (and several recent threads) I don't think I want to. And, of course it isn't shocking to see such negative 'discussions' arise after the Sinatra Tribute. I've noticed this trend throughout all of 2015 as well. Almost instantly after an acclaimed appearance by Gaga, 'fans' appear out of the shadows with these unnecessary trips down memory lane.
