StarstruckIllusion 52,564
Can we all stop this "omfg, I hope she never released generic The Fame music again. She should never, not even a question. It's so basic and other pop stars and doing it eeeeeeeeewwwwwwww11!!!1?!!¡1!!" hmm let me use the not-so-common; common sense I was blessed with to analyze the answer: stop being pretentious I know Gaga can and will write what she wants, but don't come for her if her lyrics are generic. She tried to appeal to only us Monsters as fans with BTW and ARTPOP, and she lost a lot of the casual fans, and what was left after ARTPOP-a small monitory who didn't hate her/belived in her. Isn't it the GP's turn? Sharing is caring hunties My point is that ARTPOP was too complex for the GP and that message is why they left it alone. Please do not tell me you want another complex art idea just to be pretentious again and confuse the coin, relevancy, praise and love away. 2013's backlash is not something I wanna go thru again-and that is what we will go thru again if Gaga doesnt pull something safe, stripped back and serious at this point of time. Gaga writing generic music for #LG5 isnt gonna take our precious ARTPOP away. LG5 isn't gonna take our precious Born This Way away from us, so chill. This morning I just saw a basic bitch on Twitter, mangle the meaning of a song with a simple enough meaning sooo much… *cringe*-that it made it clear; this lack-of-thought-while listening to pop things, is why pop music can't have nice things-it's core audience can't handle it. The funny thing is she's never written a tragically basic un-artistic song-(bluffin w/ my muffin - Just Dance, Poker Face's secret bisexuality meaning)-so why do y'all think she'll randomly pull a complete Katy Perry now? It's time to chill P.S. Gaga said in the sunset video she's writing music that will appeal to millions, so why is this topic still a discussion I saw on a thread like 5 mins ago lmao
MurderLipstick 44
I don't think pretentious is the right word. If everyone were to say LG5 is doing to be the best album she's ever done (which may be true ), or her lyrics are going to be very deep and powerful and the greatest our generation has ever heard, would be pretentious. But I get what you're saying!

"Love it when you call me legs, in the morning buy me eggs" On topic: I really don't care, I just don't want her to categorize her music saying it's something specific. E.g. Saying it's Art, when it's questionable, saying it's rock, when it doesn't really sound like rock... Just don't give people the chance to fire back at you for nothing and just enjoy the music But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
Man I agree with everything.. people call TF basic...well that "basic" album launched the biggest artist we'd seen in a decade, and cemented a pop culture icon. It seems basic now because EVERY. ONE. COPIED. IT. Gaga tried too hard with BTW and AP, which is why they failed. Music doesn't need to be super deep and meaningful and clever to be considered good. I don't even like Katy Perry but I listen to her last 2 albums a fvck ton more than gagas last two. It's because the music is relatable, fun, and catchy. Obviously TFM was the perfect storm in all aspects, but everything since has been a big ol mess.

Benji 20,113
ARTPOP was far from complex. It's her most basic album thus far

LoveandMagic 1,731
I don't see a lot of "pretention", if anything a lot of people want a more radio friendly sound and catchy lyrics (because it's about getting the chart hits). Me personally, I just want good music, and am confident that she will release a really great album. I don't consider albums like Born This Way or ARTPOP pretentious, though maybe the way she verbalized her concept could come off that way. BTW had very universal themes of acceptance but with a more retro sound and a splash of religious imagery. In fact, a lot of people say they can relate to it (mess at anyone who said it "failed" as an album, seriously?) Who cares though because in my opinion it's her best work to date. And ARTPOP felt a lot like a throwback to me. I'm cool with whatever she decides to do sound-wise, I just want her to be inspired when she creates. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

The dated beats Gaga wrote her self confessed "uninspired" lyrics over or the lack of polish throughout the whole project? Seriously, enlighten me

Iwontell 7,312
It's not even about getting rid of "pretentious" expectations, it's getting rid of expectations altogether...whatever she does, if it's not an absolute secret that it's even happening, ppl start speculating, bragging, criticizing, etc., it's so annoying...when AHS ends I'm 300% sure GGD will become nothing but crazy speculation, cheesy album tittles, even cheesier """leaked""" track lists, insane expectations that would set anything to look like failure, in other words, a room filled with ADHD kids high on angel dust, running around and screaming for their mommies... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
Benji 20,113
Regardless, I just want Gaga to do what she wants to do. I'd rather her not feel forced to put out a pop album when she's not feeling creative and we end up with another ARTPOP. There's plenty more pop artists out there, it's not the be all and end all if she just makes what she wants.
