Luiz 4,253
BERLIN: German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel on Sunday said Saudi Arabia must stop financing fundamentalist mosques abroad which are accused of breeding extremism. “From Saudi Arabia, Wahhabi mosques are financed throughout the world,” said Gabriel. “In Germany many extremists considered dangerous persons emerge from these communities,” he told the newspaper Bild am Sonntag. Gabriel, who is Chancellor Angela Merkel’s deputy in a left-right coalition, warned against alienating Saudi Arabia, a crucial player in the bid to end the Syrian war, with too much criticism. “At the same time we must make it clear to the Saudis that the time of looking the other way is over,” said Gabriel, who is also economy minister. The preaching associated with Wahhabi thought, including a return to Islam as practised by the first generation of Muslims, has been accused of inspiring extremists from Osama bin Laden to the Islamic State group. Gabriel, head of the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD), urged decisive steps in Germany against radical mosques associated with Islam’s ultraconservative Salafist strand. “This radical fundamentalism taking place in Salafist mosques is no less dangerous than right-wing extremism,” he said. The head of the SPD parliamentary group, Thomas Oppermann, also urged steps against preaching that contradicts the basic freedoms guaranteed in the German constitution. “We will prevent Saudi help in the building or financing of mosques in Germany where Wahhabi ideas are to be disseminated,” he told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper. Wahhabism provided the “complete ideology of the Islamic State and contributes in other countries to a radicalisation of moderate Muslims,” he said, adding that “this is something we don’t need and don’t want in Germany”. The SPD leaders’ comments were published days after Merkel’s government was embarrassed by the release of a damning report on Saudi Arabia by its own foreign intelligence service, the BND. http://tribune.com.pk/story/1004949/saudi-must-stop-financing-fundamentalist-mosques-abroad-merkels-deputy/ I disapprove of what you say, but will defend to the death your right to say it. lego 44,165
Disagree. Read this study ---> "I should begin by emphasizing that our knowledge of ISIS is extremely scant. We know close to nothing about ISIS’ social base. We know little about how it made its military gains, and even less about the nature of the coalitions into which it has entered with various groups—from other Islamist rebels in Syria to secular Ba‘athists in Iraq." Wahhabi is western invented incorrect term. Bin Laden had mixture of sufi/salafi beliefs with "muslim brotherhood" type of rebellion against all governments + kharijism. Qualle1 1,385
I fully support the German Government here. We don't need currently any more mosques here in Germany. What we urgently need are hundreds of thousands new apartments to shelter the refugees as well as socially disadvantaged fellow German citizens The Saudi Government is very welcome to fund these badly needed apartments. On top of that the Saudis are very welcome to give us their money to properly integrate all of the refugees, f. e. by paying for German language courses. They spread sexism, homophobia, anti-semitism. they are dangerous and get so much money from Saudia Arabia. Gabriel is talking about Germany, not UK. Believe me when I say that they are violent. Woolfsmck 2,763
Wealthy oil princes in Saudi Arabia have been silently funding 'terrorist' groups for some time. To them, they are helping promote their own belief system and this has been done this way for centuries. The Wahabi sect is border line extreme in their doctrine but they're not really that strict in practice. The Saudi gov. is much more tolerant and semi-pro western in their enforcement. The danger here, as I have read from various sources, isn't the mosques, or the worshipers, but extremest 'speakers' who get upon the podiums after prayer sessions and start their 'anti-west' or 'anti-Israel' or 'anti-other Islamic beliefs' rhetoric and begin to recruiting people. I'm not sure if they have the manpower or the legal right to monitor who is preaching what at these mosques, but there is a division among the Islamist people themselves. Grouping 'them all' under one tag is erroneous and dangerous. I believe that the goal of IS is to pit the west against 'all of Islam" in a grand scale war. like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true
