Noah 26,941
Hey, In the new Billboard interview, Gaga says: People think, ‘You can just sit down at a piano whenever you want and write,’ but I couldn’t write for two f---ing years. For ARTPOP, I was doing beats instead. I didn’t want to be near that damn [piano]. It was too emotional. I would start to play and sing, and my mind would go, ‘You are way too talented for this ****. F---, your voice sounds good. F---, that’s a beautiful chord. F---, that’s an amazing lyric. Why are you letting these people run you into the ground? When did you become the fashionable robot?’ Can’t being an artist be enough? Is talent ever the thing? Is this shade towards ARTPOP? Is she saying she hated it and it wasn't her? ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡

Didymus 34,379
At the same time I think she was sincere in saying that ARTPOP helped her through tough times in 2013/14. Just because she didn't feel like she could express herself truthfully doesn't mean her music was completely hollow.
Guest
She said several times she loves ARTPOP and that it was misunderstood by people

Dark Anatomy 2,284
I think she has a love-hate relationship with the album.
kizurl 1,801
I dont see it as a bad thing. Being minimal and cutting back to suit appeal of the masses is the whole intention of ARTPOP. And its not degenerating but just trying to define our current culture (pop specifically) in its caricuture. It was an interesting direction but perhaps one that is too hard to swallow for both critics and masses
Alien Tulip 12,428
She loves it but I think it's her least favorite album she's done and it probably brings back many awful memories.
Didymus 34,379
It's a weird quote though. I mean, we know she started writing ARTPOP a week after BTW was released. If she's sincere in saying that she couldn't write on her piano because it confronted her with her inability to be a true artist that means that she was already facing enormous struggles from Interscope etc. throughout 2011 ànd 2012, not just 2013 as we were led to believe. It reminds me also of how Gaga said she played ARTPOP for Interscope in August 2012. Who knows, maybe that was her real artistic effort and her label killed it, leading to her artistic frustration she's talking about here. Poor girl.
