25% of Grindr uses PreP

........ I saw this post on ATRL and was disturbed with all the comments mainly because so many people are misinformed  especially the members of ATRL. Yes PreP is a pill to help prevent HIV but it's only effective when people having safe s-x. Taking this pill and having unprotected s-x, gives people the same risk as if they weren't taking the pill. Don't believe everything you see online, consult your doctor for more information. Here is the article:

 

 

Lack of information and anxiety about talking with doctors remain largest hurdles to PrEP usage

One in four men who have s-x with men and use the app Grindr for those purposes reports being on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), a daily pill regimen that protects against contracting HIV, according to a recent survey.

Grindr, in conjunction with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Gilead Sciences, conducted a survey of more than 4,700 Grindr users about their use of or attitudes toward PrEP. It should be noted, though, that the results should be taken with a grain of salt, as Gilead Sciences is the company that produces Truvada, currently the only pill approved as a form of PrEP.

According to the Grindr, which released the results of its survey on Dec. 1 as part of World AIDS Day, 26 percent of Grindr users reported currently being on PrEP, and another 56 percent say they are interested in taking it in the future. Among all racial cohorts, Latinos were the least likely to be taking PrEP.

The biggest hurdles to PrEP use, as documented by the survey, appeared to be a lack of information or awareness of PrEP — including concerns about side-effects of taking Truvada daily or long-term health effects — and either a lack of information or an unwillingness by health care providers to prescribe or even begin discussions about the possibility of using PrEP. The latter concern dovetails with a recent finding by the CDC that more than 1 in 3 doctors were unaware of or uncomfortable prescribing PrEP to patients at higher risk of contracting HIV, including gay and bis-xual men.

It feels to me like they were trying to  something similiar to straight women who took birth control pill  so they won't get pregnant before having unprotected intercourse but it is certainly different for all the reasons you stated above. 

The only prevention for s-xual disease is using condoms.

Neither PrEP or condoms make s-x "safe". Sex is not safe and you will never make it safe. That's the only thing people should learn about "safe s-x" but mostly about PrEP. 

PrEP by itself provides a good level of protection against HIV, but it's more effective when it is combined with condoms. So if people want to have safer s-x then they should use both because that would be way better than using only PrEP or just a condom which doesn't ensure that you are gonna be protected either.

PrEP lowers the chances of getting infected with HIV but there are other STDs to be aware of.

Knowing your and your s-xual partner's status and health conditions is the only way to be at least 99% sure that you aren't going to get a STD.

Condoms don't reduce everything by 99.99999%. They don't even reduce 1% of some STDs.

With the successful and correct use of a condom you can prevent many STDs in a high level but there are other STDs like syphilis, HPV, herpes, crabs and scabies that can be transmitted by skin-to-skin contact or contact with vaginal fluids, seminal fluids and blood that can be shared still with the use of a condom during penetration. 

You don't have to have penetrative s-x to get an STD and condoms only prevent them during penetration. You can still get them if you have oral s-x to males which you shouldn't practice with a condom on because teeth can easily rip the condom.

Technically, the only practice that can prevent the spread of further sti's is to practice monogamy, however in terms of the human race, that really isn't possible, as highly evident. Condoms in terms are the most convenient but also effective method on preventing sti's from spreading. But technically and STI can also spread if it comes in contact with the ouster surface of the condom (although very low). 

THAT GIF HAHA. Also that serves another point. STI's can also spread if the guy just takes the condom off and ejaculates on the surface of the **** (or vagina) or even on the face. STI's can obviously also spread from swallowing.
