Prime Minister Justin Trudeau posted on his facebook page : Resettling refugees is a proud and important part of Canada’s humanitarian tradition. It reflects our commitment to Canadians and it demonstrates to the world that we have a shared responsibility to help people who are displaced and fleeing persecution. Protecting the safety, security, and health of Canadians and refugees is a key factor in guiding the Government of Canada’s plan to resettle 25,000 Syrian refugees as quickly as possible – while also taking the time to do it right. The Government’s plan will welcome 10,000 refugees by the end of the year, with the remaining 15,000 arriving by the end of February 2016. There are way too many people down here in the "sweet land of liberty" who are crying about letting Syrian refugees in but they don't seem to remember that Americans felt the same way about Jewish refugees during WWII times. I think he means it's amazing they didn't back off from original plan, they didn't start to blame refugees for terrorism, like some others. American Angst is due to misrepresentation of the Middle East and a sort of mythology of the arab but honestly it's not just them. The differences with European country is that we are way closer and have more colonising history with them, also Canada needs immigration I don't know regarding USA. Your population is larger and Germany has a lot more money to pay for these people. Way more immigrants are coming to Europe no matter what the case since there's not a giant impassible ocean in between them and you. Furthermore, you have to take them thanks to practical considerations, the feeling of guilt from WW2, and EU rules... we don't. America is shuddering at the thought of a mere 10,000 in the coming year... our population is 10 times smaller and we're taking 2-1/2 times as many in the next three months.
