Words change their meanings based on cultural usage. see that's the thing, you don't know why your getting offended besides the fact it represents your s-xuality. you say words change their meanings based on cultural change; so you can choose to take a negative connotation into a compliment and destroy it's derogatory message so it doesn't become and slur by ignorant assholes. homophobes only say that because they know it will offend, if your not offended then it loses it's power. you choose to be offended. It's not about perception, as you seem to think, it's about intention. From dictionary.com : "tending to lessen the merit or reputation of a person or thing". You can't decide a word isn't derogatory when you're the one the word is being used against. Only the people using it can. yes it does because your getting offended by a word that you don't know the origin too So what?
