Miel 15,009
I was thinking maybe 15/16-18 episodes would be a really good span to let the plot line breathe and expand; all considering it'd be good, of course. 3 points in and ready for more
SILENT HILL 1,715
If anything maybe one or two extra episodes. It would really depend on the season

While I love the show and would love more, 13 episodes leaves no room for flimsy stories and unnecessary scenes. Good writing (including the amount of characters etc) allows for optimal character development and story telling despite the short time frame allowed. Are you sure we're watching the same show? It's no lie that AHS has really lacked in the writing department and time management lately. I'm trying not to judge Hotel until it's finished but Freakshow was, well, let's not open that can of worms. Orphan Black, while it's not a one-season show, only have 13 episodes per season (I think), and talking about only season 1, each minute was of significance imo and I never got bored or felt certain scenes were time wasting. RAMROD 109,703
IDK, I think what we have is good enough. I don't really like long seasons of TV Shows unless it really bring something or adaptation from books. Otherwise iy can lose its magic fast, look at Glee for example. AlexanderLevi2 5,849
I think it would be a great idea and I see your point but making LONG stories is such a difficult craft. I used to love long books when I was younger but the older I've gotten, I love short stories. If a book is more than 300 pages. I don't even pick it up (unless it 's considered a classic). It's the same thought process with movies and TV shows for me. I like watching a show that has character development but gets straight to the point with a few subplots along the way. Too many subplots just makes my brain hurt. Currently listening to Joanne
CannaeDrive 3,412
I think I'd enjoy that for the series I follow like AHS and GOT. I really enjoy a show like The Blacklist that has 22 episodes and also long @ss books/novels (I'm actually finishing Ken Follet's The Century Trilogy which is +1000 pages long). That said, the producers have to consider other factors like the cost of doing longer shows and availability of the cast members, among other things. Sometimes reality put a wrench in our wish. freebit 6,240
Hmm...though the seasons halfway over and I feel a reluctance to leave this world and its characters, I don't think it would end up being a good idea. It brings to mind Twin Peaks second season when they went from 8 eps to 22 and I was inundated with dumb side plots I didn't care about, like Nadine trying to become a cheerleader. So nah, they just need writers that communicate with each other and are able to thread together plots to make a good. satisfying story that is believable for the characters they've established. Like for example, the Liz and Tristan story really didn't need to be that lazily handled, it would have been much better if they dropped subtle hints and made an effort to make their love more believable. They made the mistake of telling and not showing, which is so surprisingly amateur on their behalves.
djBuffoon 12,123
Hotel is managing its time more sensibly than Coven or Freak Show. We have a pretty good sense of where everyone stands, the backstories are surprising and cause us to re-evaluate how we feel about certain characters, and there are some major confrontations coming, which will undoubtedly all have major repercussions. It's messy at times, but I think it's also very compelling.
