Chris Christie: U.S. shouldn't let in Syrian orphans

Chris Christie is republican. All republicans are going to push back on all forms of immigration, including refugees.

Are there families willing to adopt these orphans? If not, they will just get thrown into the foster care system and end up in a country without a family and thousands of miles away from their country of origin. Wouldn't it be better if they found Syrian families in Europe or other areas who were willing to adopt these kids? Does Germany have a foster care system? Sweden? Netherlands? Belgium? Those countries have and will end up with larger percentages of Syrian communities, so these orphans could at least have connections to their people and country of origin.

Reading this thread made me pull out some popcorn.

Anyway, Christie is trash. Nobody should be surprised by this. He needs to drop out of the race too. Who is he kidding? He will get like 3% of the votes at most.

You have millions of muslims living in America, I'm sure many of them would offer to adopt refugee orphans.

And there might be many among good willed non-muslim Americans.

We are talking about number of 10.000 people and some of them would be orphans.

Fancy to think that a village of 100 in Germany took 1000 refugees and US doesn't even want to take 10000. :flop:

That's what I asked, are there people willing to adopt them?

If they aren't babies or young toddlers, then they won't magically get adopted by good willed people either. They will just end up in the foster care system.

A more permanent environment closer to their country of origin and their people would make more sense and be better for the children then ending up in a foster care system away from everything they know.

Disgusting. history repeats over and over again. Especially in a country that claims to have freedom and considers itself as the best country in the world, this is really disappointing.

innocent people especially children are the biggest losers of war. Even if they get accepted I don't wanna know how horrible the trauma must be.

Do you know the issue with SA, UAE, etc not allowing refugees into their countries? Or was that made-up?

Also, I think that the US should let people in; however, if we can't even take care of our own, how are we suppose to for the refugees?

I think in SA refugees just don't have refugees status or something like, but @lego knows about that I think.

The US takes in immigrants (including refugees) every single year and have been doing so for as long as the country has been established. The US also has three times more undocumented immigrants that come in every year that end up having kids that become automatic citizens of the US. (Who then grow up and have kids, who grow up and have kids...all are permanent US citizens.)

Is Germany going to allow all these refugees to become citizens? Are the children the refugees have while in Germany granted permanent citizenship?

Doesn't Germany have a foster care system? Why don't they provide for these orphans and make efforts to place them with families from Syria, or at least in towns like the ones you mentioned? They have the money to do this, evidently.

I think citizenships etc. is pretty much irrelevant right now. (since I don't really know the citizenship laws in Germany)  The most important thing is that those refugee get shelter.

Orphans better get in care of non-refugee people, simply because refugee shelter aren't good place to live and would be better if they were in a German family.

It's not irrelevant, as it ends up meaning that even undocumented immigrants can have children who become citizens. If the US brings people to the country, they become permanent citizens. If you are even visiting the US and have a child, that child will be a citizen of the US. If Germany is not bringing these refugees in as permanent citizens and does not have automatic citizenship for births, then the situations are different.

I find it odd you don't know the basics of citizenship of your country, since you report on this refugee crises all the time.

Does Germany have a foster care system?

Bad Bromance

This is a very difficult subject to discuss because everyone has their own points of view and many different opinions, as well.  My humanitarian side says that we should accept all of the refugees with open arms but my cautious side tells me that some radicalized men could pose as refugees and end up in Europe or the U.S. and wreak havoc down the road.

Perhaps we could ask countries like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates to take in some refugees, as well?  The U.S. could also take them in, but only after screening these people and closely monitoring them here in the U.S. to ensure no one causes harm on the American people.

I struggle with all of this because there are millions of innocent people but at the same time, we have other millions of people who are at risk of possibly facing terrorist attacks.  This is an extremely difficult subject and we need to find a solution to it really fast because millions of people are suffering.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

True Simon. You can ask @Fays1 , he lives there.

The topic here is about toddlers, orphans...terrorists are hiding among orphans.

Gulf countries already took refugees, they just don't have refugee status and they fund refugee camps in Arab countries bordering Syria.

Yes, but I'm talking about other refugees in general.  There are talks in the U.S. about allowing 10,000 Syrian refugees in the country and that is why I said I was fearful of possible extremists infiltrating the country in that wave that come through.

As for the orphans, yes, if they are young children, then yes, they should be allowed here.  The problem is what we are going to do once those children arrive in the U.S.  What if no one wants to adopt them?  Then what happens?  They're going to end up in foster care or become wards of the state.

I think the solution would be to get families to agree to adopt the children so they can have a real home and not end up in our foster care system, which is pretty broken if you ask me.

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.
