Chic 20,830
Popular trans activist and New York Times best selling author Janet Mock never imagined that she'd find a man to marry. She never imagined she'd have the fairytale wedding that girls grow up dreaming about. But all that changed when she met her now husband, Aaron Tredwell. The couple married in an elegant affair in Mock's hometown, Oahu, Hawaii, and in an exclusive with Brides.com, Mock shared details about how she meet Aaron, the anxiety she felt sharing her story with him and the wonderful joy she experienced on her fairytale day. "It was 2009, and I was tipsy and twirling when I bumped into Aaron," Mock began. "Within minutes of our meeting, he invited me for a cup of coffee, and in a nearby fluorescent-lit café, I discovered that he was more than good-looking. He was kind and attentive and had a generous ear. I knew he was my guy, but I was unsure if I'd be his girl." While she was hesitant to share her trans journey with him, as she opened up, he became empathetic, offering her a hug and understanding, and the rest was history. Tredwell proposed in December 2014 and the certainty of their engagement left Mock with a feeling she never knew she longed for. "There were no frills and there was no hesitation as he slipped an oval diamond engagement ring with a rose-gold band onto my finger," she said. "When I said yes, I had never been more certain about anything." Her favorite part of the big day? Mock says it was the part that most people don't want to happen. "Our synchronized 'ugly cry' was the highlight of my wedding," she said. "Just the two of us, fully present in front of our people meant everything. It was a dream, an impossible dream come true." All the best to the happy couple and best of luck on their union! http://www.essence.com/2015/11/06/trans-activist-janet-mock-has-wedding-her-dreams This is absolutely beautiful. Dreams can come true for anybody, and this is an example. It is imperative that this image of trans people is conveyed in the media rather than that of the stereotypes/harsh realities like s-x work and d--g use.
