[People Think China Will or Already Has Replaced U.S. as Superpower] When asked about the future, people around the world are generally convinced that China either will eventually replace or already has replaced the U.S. as the world’s leading superpower. Overall, majorities or pluralities in 27 of 40 countries surveyed say this. It is important to note, however, that in no country do more than 26% say China has already replaced the U.S. Instead, the more common view is that China will eventually take its place as the global superpower.

Around equal numbers of Americans say China has replaced or will eventually replace the U.S. as the world’s leading superpower as say that China will never replace the U.S. (46% vs. 48%). By a 52%-40% margin, Canadians think that China will or has replaced the U.S.

European Union countries surveyed all agree that China will become the world’s top power, ranging from 66% in France to 46% in Poland. Among the regions surveyed, Europeans are the most convinced that the U.S.’s days as top power are numbered.

Middle Easterners are also convinced that China will eventually overtake the U.S., including 56% of Israelis.

Overall, a median of 41% in these countries say China will or already has replaced the U.S., while 38% say it will never happen.

[Younger People More Likely to See China Overtaking the U.S.] More than half in China (67%), Australia (66%), South Korea (59%) and Pakistan (53%) say China will eventually be the world’s leading power. A plurality of Malaysians also agree, but Indians are split on this issue. Meanwhile, roughly two-thirds or more in Japan (77%), Vietnam (67%) and the Philippines (65%) say that China will never replace the U.S. as the globe’s superpower, which are the highest such readings across the countries surveyed.

Latin American publics generally think that the U.S. will lose its position as the globe’s superpower, but not every country in the region agrees. The most likely to say China will surpass the U.S. are Argentina (56%), Chile (53%) and Peru (50%). However, 56% of Brazilians say the U.S. will never be replaced.

In the nine African nations surveyed, pluralities in six believe the U.S. will be replaced by China, including roughly half in Burkina Faso, Senegal, Tanzania and Kenya.

In 17 of the countries surveyed, younger people are more likely to say China has or will replace the U.S. as the leading superpower. For example, 65% of Canadians ages 18-29 think China will or has replaced the U.S., while only 46% among those ages 50 and older say the same. This age gap also exists in the U.S. itself, as well as a diverse array of countries across the globe.

Well based purely on the state of their manufacturing power alone I would say yes. Many governments also predict this. For example, Australia is being very careful in establishing a good relationship with china, one which was previously very one sided.

The dominance of English will give America and UK cultural power because few people outside East Asia will know Chinese.

Also a can't see a Superpower China investing in being the world's policeman and social worker the way America does. They will be more isolationist, and a less powerful America likely will be too in future.

Militarily, I don't think so - at least not in the foreseeable future. If the U.S. decreases its military presence worldwide, it'd still be a leg and an arm ahead the might of the Chinese military. I also don't know if the Chinese are willing to invest in their military what it takes to compete with the U.S. technologically. 

Economically, I think they'll replace the U.S. as the foremost economic superpower. I think they've already done that. 

Politically, it remains to be determined. Like the member above me said, I don't know if China wants to take the role of global policeman like America does. They are significantly more isolationist than we are and it seems like they only engage when it affects them directly.

Culturally, I highly doubt it. 

This is all based off the current government. I think China would absolutely become THE superpower if it overthrew the Communist Party and became democratic (although, again, not in culture).

I only lol at these people. Only thing China can do is passing GDP of USA. 

According to World Bank:

- USA's   GDP:  $17,419 billion. 
- China's GDP:  $10,360 billion. 

USA's GDP is still by far higher than China... 

BUT Also according to World Bank : 

- USA's GDP per capita:   $54,629
- China's GDP per capita: $7,594

These values are nominal not PPP, because we want to compare wealth/income of citizens independent from the country. So simply an average american citizen is 7-8 times richer than China. Now, there are various countries whose citizens are richer than USA but none of them has neither population higher than 25M,(most has less than 5M citizen) nor has a R&D* spending anything that can get near USA. [R&D = Research and Development]. 

According to World Bank again: 

- USA has 31.1% share of R&D spending of the world. 
- China has 17.5% share of R&D spending of the world.

Extra informations: 

US is the only country that can affect nearly all countries' economies in the world. In fact, FED's raising interest rates of USD already put many countries in crisis because USD is the most commonly used currency, and wealthy people prefer to keep their money in USA.

Let's sum up these data:

USA is simply the richest big scale country.
Only reason why China's GDP can compete with USA is its excessive population.
Chinese citizens live in much more worse conditions compared to american citizens.
USA invests more in technology, in fact they are leading country in innovation. 
Chinese economy is largely depending on cheap workforce.

Then, I don't understand why would anyone think China is going to replace US as global superpower. China's high GDP does not mean anything, even India is a G20 country just because they have huge population, even though their citizens are very poor. If US needed to compete with China, they have every power to do it. Cheap workforce will never bring power to a country but technology. To give a simple a--logy to this, India is the biggest blood related pharmaceutical supplier in the world, but for example, UK has a factory that can produce all of its blood related pharmaceutical products, but it only works at a very minimal level currently because buying it from India is so much cheaper. 

Simply think about this simple a--logy, there is a group of engineers, an a huge mass of unqualified workers. Even if the sum of unqualified workers' salary is higher than the summary of engineers, they still don't hold as much power as these engineers do. Engineers can make a robot that does what workers do, it might cost more but they can; or they can find other unqualified people and teach them to how to make what they've invented. But workers are nothing unless there is something to do...

World doesn't even need China, China needs world. China is just an any other random country with only exception. They have a massive population; yet population does not mean anything by itself.

There is no way that China can replace US. There is no way in the world, it can happen in a century, unless there is a very unexpected event that works in favor of China like a new world war. 

PS: China is a powerful country with high GPA, end of the story. It can compete with some other powerful countries from Europe etc, but not with USA. Statistically it is impossible. It wouldn't take too long for USA to worsen already bad chinese economy if they wanted to.
