Rihanna's father : '“Robyn is not happy with the album.'

I understand it's not easy to write music for anyone...even song writers like Gaga. However, I feel the reason why she is getting frustrated and perhaps even her writers is because she DOESN'T really know the concept well...what's ANTI?

Since she's not writing her music, the only thing she can do is convey the theme of the album, but if she doesn't really GET it...how can they? There's a lack of communication somewhere and either SHE or THEY aren't getting it

That's certainly a possibility, although I don't think there will ever be much insight on exactly how Rihanna works.

Writing a song is not too difficult for some musicians though

Key word here being 'some.' I don't know why it's so difficult for people to understand that writing and singing don't go hand in hand with each other. If you're capable of doing both well, then good for you. It's not something that all artists should be expected to be able to do.

The struggle of not writing your own stuff. Maybe she should try it. She could possibly get the results she's looking for.

I want to hear what type of song she would write. If you're always looking out for what you want and you don't find it, why not try looking inward?

I agree with you, I can't stand artists who do nothing but provide vocals.

Thank you!  I see them more as a marketing tool than a true musician.

Didn't she just cancel her Victoria's Secret performance. Oh, boy what a messy era.

I think it's hysterical all the people who say Rihanna flopped with her first three singles.

45seconds double platinum #1 Hot 100

BBHMM Platinum # 14 Hot 100.

She really only flopped with American Oxygen.  So her record company will probably end up giving her more money for singles. Even if she releases and album that doesn't contain anymore hit singles she still has an album with one number one song and one top 20. All she needs is one more number one song to have as many number ones as Prism. I mean unconditionally was released on time with a proper video release and still only managed to get to number 14.  Still it will be tough straighten out this era. Hopefully she can do it.#Pray4R8

45seconds double platinum #1 Hot 100

It peaked at #4

And BBHMM at #15

you're viewing the Australian charts

Also, it's more about the fact that Rihanna is a singles artist... even with #1 singles she doesn't sell too many albums... so it's an underperformance for her standards

But I'm only a man and I do what I can.

yeah but the first single went double platinum and the second went platinum. She has already covered the marketing expenses for those singles and AO was a single there was really no marketing associated with it. Just a cheaply made video Tidal exclusive. All I am saying is that her record company would invest in more singles. And an album released by Rihanna no matter how bad will probably end up doing at least gold. Platinum with a good hit single.  Charts are less important that actual sales. Am I right to say Ariana has never had a number one song? Also take a look at Nicki Minaj who is on her 6th single from her flop of an album with only two songs reaching double platinum status and an album which has sold less than 700,000. I think we are Paroniod about R8 without too much reason.

Just realised Cheek to Cheek has almost sold as many copies as The Pinkprint.... mess.... Nicki's audio videos and spotify have so many views/listen... guess many enjoy the product for a while, but don't want to be linked to it by purchasing a copy

Yeah you're right about the Spotify thing, but as far as I can tell 45Seconds has more than twice as many streams on Spotify and BBHMM has more streams than Anaconda. Spotify pays more than Youtube per stream. So more money is generated. Youtube however counts as a bigger chunk for the hot100 so therefore it go the song to #2.  Its weird because Rihanna seems to be a much bigger Spotify streaming artist than NickI, but Nicki has her beat in YouTube.

Nicki doesn't have Rihanna beat on youtube... Anaconda went viral, so it's hard to compare... American Oxygen had basically no promo and BBHMM is restricted, so only people with an account can watch the video, but it has more than 1 million likes, I believe... so it would have like 180 million views by now... also, let's consider that the video came much later... the song was already popular on the radio and had a lot of listens on spotify... The rest of Rihanna's videos might not have as many views as you'd expect, but it's just because youtube has a much bigger audience now than it used to, and Nicki is somewhat recent...
