Benji 20,113
Here to rub salt in the wound lol There was a discussion here that dissolved into people denying that "Lady Gaga" was a character. Now Gaga has gone on to confirm it, I'm here with my bag of salt.... bare your wounds please cause Benji called it. She reffered to herself as a character on the Poker Face set. Here's the receipts... the announcement she made was no shock to me I called it

Didymus 34,379
As usual, her accounts of her artistry don't match at all and in a way, her recent comments sort of annihilate her early artistic messages and statements completely That makes me quite sad because The Fame was my favorite era exactly because it was so filled to the brim with artistic wonder. Like, she already confirmed in 2008 that her The Fame persona was just one manifestation of her craft and she promised to keep on changing every time the world thought it "figured her out" because she "mastered the art of fame". It's actually a little amusing that she gave that up right in the beginning of 2010 and developed every single year into a more human form, until she actually had the balls now to say that the entire thing was a way to cope with her own problems, stripping her entire career of any artistic worth, basically. It's quite sad, actually, if she's really telling the truth. On the other hand, it also makes her journey a lot more interesting and psychologically complex. But as a fan who was really excited about Gaga's mysterious and actually intellectual and culturally challenging play with identity and artistic falsehood, it's really disappointing to have seen her just throw in the towel time and time again until now she's basically saying she's just like everyone else. This post seems to create some misunderstandings, so please read my full statement about the above here pls: http://gagadaily.com/topic/167652-i-called-it-lady-gaga-is-a-character/?page=2#comment-7159900 Thanks

But if anything, she should have changed her name from that point on, because calling Born This Way a character creation is basically a slap in the face to this fan base... Didymus 34,379
Are you implying that art has never been used as an expression of one's own problems? I agree with that thought, but still, I mean her early era's were filled with artistic statements that could in no way at all be interpreted as anything she's describing them to be now. When you add the recent layer of "I just wanted to create someone who was stronger than me" on top of everything she said, it's almost the exact opposite artistic statement that she made back in 2008/early 2009. That was just the point I wanted to make.

To me that makes it all the more beautiful. Would you care to elaborate?

Well, you could still interpret it as Gaga trying to be strong for everyone in some almost Christian implication. I do think that BTW is the culmination of her early clash with the psychological problems that her fans projected on to her and her realization that she wanted to do something about it. But at the same time, in 2013 she described BTW simply as a way to show the world that she was just some metal loving chick So who knows, honestly. To me that makes it all the more beautiful. Would you care to elaborate? I edited my post a bit 'cause I too felt it was a bit misleading I hope my added passage makes it clearer. It's just a personal disappointment because I, for one, thought her "character" was actually more inspiring, more intriguing and more challenging on a psychological level than her admitting that it was just a creation. But I totally understand how that can be different for a fan who sees it from the exact opposite direction, because I know that a lot of people here see The Fame just as some fun thing that isn't even so interesting.
