This isn't due to the American political system, it is representative of greed among influential people in powerful positions.Unfortunately there really isn't anything we can do about it here in America. A dividend tax is a good idea because since most rich ppl make lots of money on investments, thats a good way to tax them their fair share or do what we do here in Canada, count dividends/gains as income and its added to your annual income and what you pay on dividends depends where u are on income bracket i pay 15% on dividends cuz i only make $32.000 a year. My dad would pay 22% on dividends because he makes $70,000 a year A top bracket income earner would pay 29% in Canada because thats the top income bracket tax rate. I think this system is fair! Here it is 30% tax on a fixed estimate of 4% interest rate, above 30000€ total investments/savings. They want to change it so there's no tax below 100k investments+savings, which would make it fairer for the middle class. They also want to make the taxrate dependent on the type of investment, so bank depositos (low interest rate) get a lower tax than other things with a high interest rate, but only the left-wing parties really support it (and the right-wing coalition partner, as a sort of compromise).
