Fiona Apple 13,006
girl... The Immaculate Collection has sold over 30 million copes ww. So what? You really want to compare the album sales in 80s and 2010s? Selling 27 million in 2011 is like selling 40m+ back then Madonna had a consistently successful commercial career spanning three decades and sold upwards of 250 million records... That's not 'crazily successful'? She's literally the most successful female artist in the history of everything. This comparison is not even fair to Adele. Just because she's had an enormous few years that doesn't mean she can trump a 30+ years of success. If you judge based on sales and chart positions then you must agree that Adele has not surpassed Madonna. It's getting ridiculous.. That's exactly what I said..Madonna OBVIOUSLY had a 10 times more successful OVERALL career. But she never had an era as big as 21..And it looks like 25 will be just as big
Cry 77
I actually like Adele's new song and have nothing against her, but this is a clear example of bandwagonning tbh. If this was 1995 they would be saying Alanis Morissette surpassed Madonna too. This is either a troll thread or an example of serious lack of knowledge. Madonna's current image/reputation doesn't do her decades on top justice. She's done so much for pop, particularly female artists.I like Hello too. But this thread is ridiculous. Shania Twain sold 40 million copies with Come On Over and what? She is definitely bigger than Madonna and Adele combined. Right? F*cking no. Stop bringing these sales receipts. The amount of impact Madonna has with her eras sh*ts on 21 era (and 25 era too). Madonna made a revolution, she changed the game. And nobody can come close to her imperial phase. Even Adele with her 28+ million selling album. And I have a question for you. Do you bandwagon Adele?

But I am not talking about impact or revolution How is it so hard to understand? Madonna is obviously a bigger personality in pop music... I am talking about sales and album sales. Madonna haven't had an era as big commercially as 21.

Fiona Apple 13,006
Adele is just a diva that sings about love and is liked mostly by middle-aged moms, nothing new or anything (except she writes her music)You don't need to be something "new" to be amazing. She is unique in her own way..Her voice is AMAZING,her melodies/lyrics are also great ,her personality is so amazing, she is beautiful..She is famous for her songs and her voice not for her outfits, for her body or for her s-xiness.It's not just "middle-aged moms" that listen to her.The reason that she sells so many copies is that people from every age listen to her.. From 8 years old kid to 80 years old people

Qualle1 1,385
Although Madonna has been around for many decades, it seems to me like Adele is much more respected and relies on talent (instead of gimmicks) - Her album '21' sold 30 million copies. Madonna's best selling album sold 25 million copies at a time when record sales were exponentially higher. - Adele gets #1's without trying. She doesn't need to reinvent herself or shock the audiences. She can sell 1M+ based on the power of her music alone. - Longevity. Adele's hit singles are timeless. While Madonna has songs that are remembered, they feel more like throwbacks to the 80s and a joke (Material Girl, Like A Virgin, etc). Songs like Someone Like You will always sound good because they are genuinely good music. - Adele is liked by everyone. Her music speaks to everyone and her personality isn't polarizing. Adele has a bigger pool of fans that will keep her legendary for decades to come, while Madonna's legacy has become tarnished. What do you think? If you don't have a clue what you are talking about, it is better to STFU! MAKE LOVE NOT WAR

Lol it's getting ridiculous. The person above said "Adele is just a diva that sings about love and is liked mostly by middle-aged moms, nothing new or anything". And I pretty much said that people from every age listen to Adele..And you answered something COMPLETELY off topic and random "So only "middle-aged moms" listen to Madonna's music (Gaga's music). Right? "
