DiscoHeaven23 35,007
The depositions of Pharrell and Robin Thicke have been released today and lets just say they're not going to be a positive thing for either of their images. Pharrell acts completely opposite of his persona in the media and it put a bad taste in my mouth for him. Robin Thicke honestly comes across as pathetic and it makes me feel bad for him just a little tiny bit. Below are the links to the Billboard articles that contain the videos. Harry 26,836
I don't think he comes across as a db at all. It was a ridiculous case and nobody is friendly in these situations. I would've been just as ****y.

Its sounds EXACTLY like Marvin Gaye's song.He says that Marvin didnt come into his mind when he was writing that song.....which is bull****. They know what they're doingThe style and instrumentation is similar but nothing in the actual composition was plagiarised. There are way worse examples in popular music all the time, dare I mention BTW/EY. No one is saying they don't sound similar. But that $7m is totally unjustified. Everyone supports this because they hate Robin/the song. I do too. But if it was Gaga being sued by Madonna, this site would be up in arms about it. BTW/EY do sound a little similar I agree on that(but only for like 5seconds of the song and the instrumental sounds nothing alike). But in the case of BL/GTGIU its way more obvious as in the instrumental and drum patterns, the chore progressions, the high vocals, the funky vibe, Its all too coincidental. what do you mean when you say "nothing in the actual composition was plagiarised"? I don't know who told you that. High vocals? Marvin Gaye's family should sue Justin Timberlake as well if that's an offence. Stevie Wonder should sue Pharrell and Thicke for using a 'funky vibe' too. The instrumentation, yes. You're honestly telling me you think that a similar line up of instruments, 'vibe' and drum patterns warrants a $7.4m lawsuit?I'm not saying there aren't clear similarities. I'm not saying that these two were even honest about everything during the case. I also think there was a huge influence. But WHY is that a bad thing? When I say there was nothing in the actual composition that was plagiarised, it's exactly what I mean. They didn't copy the chords, melody, lyrics, anything. Nothing that can be noted down is the same. But the stylistic and performance elements are extremely similar. Meanwhile there are actually huge similarities in the chord progressions of BTW and EY. But that's not plagiarism either! There are only twelve notes, some songs are going to be compositionally similar. The result of this lawsuit basically says to artists: you can't be inspired. And because it's Blurred Lines which is super cool to hate, everyone just jumps on the bandwagon and tries to justify it. Maybe Whitney Houston's family should sue Gaga for taking serious I Wanna Dance With Somebody cues for Fashion of His Love.

FYI Im a huge fan of Pharrell and Thicke, and I love this song. Im not jumping on the bandwagon of hate, I still like the song, but as a remake..... And NO, infuence in a song isnt a bad thing, people do it all the time, but this song however sounds EXACTLY like Gayes song. Theres a difference when a song influences you and when you just copy the song and change up a few chords and vocals. THATS why GAYE'S family won the trial. Also, you're trying to make a point about them suing anybody that sings in a high vocal and being funky with the same vibe and same drum composition. NO they cant but when its in ONE song....come on, its pretty obvious Pharrell was in the studio thinking, "yeah, lets make a song that sounds like this" and they did and they were like **** it lets just release it and hope we dont get sued... Offended, where? I'm just saying my opinion lol. If you read my post you would've got the part where I said it's similar and they clearly wanted to emulate the same sound. I also said they weren't honest about that influence when it's glaringly obvious, and they should've been. Musicians do pastiches literally all the time, just like Gaga, as I mentioned. And once again the chord patterns aren't even similar lol. With all due respect I do kind of feel like you've just read a Gawker article or something about this and had it form your opinion. So I'll ask you again. You think $7.4m is a fair settlement for mimicking the 'vibe' of the song?
