Is AHS focused in the wrong area?

The show does feel absolutely clueless. Storylines make no sense (the most recent example is the detective seeing a real picture of his son made by his daughter and simply ignoring it, not even looking for him in the hotel or Gaga's enemy seeking revenge even though she actually cheated on her, thus nullifying her likeability), characters do the same thing over and over and over again without any hint to substance, the creepy scenes have absolutely no narrative purpose, nearly all of the characters are so obviously lifeless (I mean, the mother-son narrative in the latest episode and Kathy's suicide was so cliché and predictable it took every fibre in my being not to turn it off) that the actors (incl. Gaga) are basically wasted, the hotel is presented in such a segmented and disjointed way that it doesn't feel substantial and any hint to "deeper" themes fall so hilariously flat due to bad and superficial writing that the show can't even pretend to be glamorously and tongue-in-cheek vapid.

No wonder Gaga loves it so much though, I mean, she and the show basically make the same mistakes in presenting their ideas :air: I hope she'll make wiser decisions acting-wise in the future.

it's only three episodes in, the series always has a beginning, a middle and an end. You can't expect every episode to have some big climactic scene. There's a building of exposition, etc. The episodes really pick up half way through the season. The last 6 of the 13 episodes are where it's going to get really good. And the detective storyline and Alex and the children I feel with intertwine with the overall storyline and make more sense later on.

The point is that people are getting tired of their storyline when nothing happens in it. It's put in the beginning or throughout the entire episode in these 5-10 minute clumps that break up the rest of the episode. Nothing John has done is interesting, nothing Alex has done is interesting and that's coming from a Chloe Sevigny fan. The lowe's were hyped from the very beginning yet they lack depth. And the excuse of "there's only 3 ep" can't even be applied to them because March had more development than John and Alex combined in a single 10 minute scene in one episode.

I'm not denying that it won't pick up because it always does but you can't keep forcing people to watch a plot that goes absolutely nowhere for half the episode then give the good characters (March having one scene before the title sequence, for instance) zero screentime, especially when you introduce them in the previous episode with a full fledged, jaw dropping, "what the **** did i just see, give me more" moment.

My problem is that it seems so artificial - like, are there any other people in the hotel? Or is it empty? It seems to exist in a completely separeted universe and doesn't feel like it's in a big city at all.

Too many people here with moral superiority complex.

The scenes are a mix of bland, boring moments and then graphic s-x or graphic violence.

I've only enjoyed Gaga's scenes this year, that's coming from a long time viewer.

Gaga is slaying, but the show itself is flopping

Kathy, Sarah, and Finn's characters never intrigued me.

I'm ok with Wes Bentley's part of the show, but on the other hand it feels like they're just demoing the 'American Crime Story' format.

This is actually interesting and true. It's the reverse warholian expedition we weren't expecting to happen at all.

I think a lot of this is what I am getting at.

I understand it's only 3 episodes in, and that's fair to point out, but also.. How long are people expected to tune in to "wait" for interesting characters to show themselves? People can only be told to hang on every week for so long..

I've seen previous seasons of AHS, and they grabbed me in a way this season hasn't. Freakshow, while becoming a bit confusing, had a much stronger start even. And I think a lot of it is because I'm having difficulty getting into the detective story.

definitely. the writing is dire, and the interesting parts are subjugated while the boring parts are drawn out. the tristan plot line/character is so lame, and don't even get me started on the cheesy ramona royale plot line last night, esp. that cheap elevator montage.

The writing could be better for sure. Sometimes i just wonder "wtf is this line about"?

But i had similar feelings when Asylum started, like first 4 episodes were so boring and i was like "why people claim that this is best season?" But then magic happened and everything got interesting. Hoping this time will be the same.

Yeah...I agree that 3 episodes in and they all kinda feel like a pilot episode and haven't pregressed very much...

There's only 13 episodes so you would THINK the story would move on quickly to the exciting storylines but I feel like 3 have been wasted

What also makes the views go down is the cliff hangers....there's no excitement at the END of the episodes to make you want to see the next one...know what I mean?

I disagree I think you guys just want fiery fast storyline that has a lot of pointless horror. I'm loving this season can't wait to see what happens.

I'm finding it really difficult to watch Hotel because it's pretty boring.  I don't think the detective's storyline is gripping enough to uphold an entire episode and the characters feel extremely badly written.

Gaga is great at playing the Countess but she, along with a majority, are given such bad material to work with, it is shocking.  The acting feels awkward as if they are unable to fully believe in what they are meant to be saying, however I have to give credit to Sarah and Evan though who are really nailing it.

I don't care if it is only 3 episodes in, that is quite a lot really considering the length of each and the season itself, March had 30 minutes of screen time and had more substance than anyone else.

Definite decline in quality, the cinematic and imagery can't keep me tuned in for much longer

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
