Alien megastructure possibly discovered?

Strange light emitting from a distant star has astronomers and people in the scientific community scratching their heads.

The only sure thing about the star, called KIC 8462852, seems to be uncertainty.

Spotted by NASA's Kepler Space Telescope in 2009, the strange light pattern emitted from the star has puzzled many over the years.

The pattern of light suggests a large mass of matter is circling the star. That would be normal for a young star that might be surrounded by dust and particles but not for an older star like KIC 8462852.

"Aliens should always be the very last hypothesis you consider, but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build," Wright told the organization.

"but this looked like something you would expect an alien civilization to build". In other words the possibility of an alien megastructre existing is there. Also if you read the full article, it mentions that all the possible natural explanations have problems and are not fully satisfactory. This only adds to the mystery.

So, he's claiming to know what alien civilizations would build? That's horribly ambiguous. Also, the possibility of it being a huge croissant also there, it doesn't make it relevant.

Look, almost all major news outlets have article titles similar to mine regarding this situation. And, based on the necessities we have, the physics that we have, and the knowledge about stars and planets we have, scientists came to this POSSIBLE conclusion. I am not claiming that this is certain at all. Just that the possibility is there.

Well, technically your use of the word 'scientists' is also a bit ambiguous. This is a crowd sourced paper, by citizen scientists. Also, this isn't a news outlet, this is a forum. We don't need views on this thread to keep the lights on.

Not really. Life, and even intelligent life, could definitely exist all around the universe. If the Earth has life, what are the chances that in a universe so big, there wont be any advanced life in other planets? Also, if some advanced civilizations needed fuel, the biggest sources of fuel that we know of are stars. Of course we never know how aliens my think or what they really do, but if they are a similar to us, then an alien mega structure surrounding a star is not illogical.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure the human race will destroy themselves before they actually meet another alien civilization. The chance that there is someone near is way too small.
