I think it's interesting but we hear people all the time wanting a return of "crazyGa", but she mentions that those looks became a kind of "cage" for her because people expected her to stay in that cage, and they began to associate the cage as being "Gaga" and were unable to see through it the the artist underneath. They associated her with a specific form of fashion art.I think the entire quote about her music references the same thing also. I think many here overreacted and misinterpreted those statements. She was saying she gets "caged" by her music in the same way, in that people associate her with certain sounds and expect the same thing over and over. I don't think she was saying that she ever did, or in the future intends to, put herself into that cage just to please fans or critics, I think she was just acknowledging that the cage exists. Gaga is an extreme right brained creative. We have enough proof of that in interviews, where her answers sometimes fly off into tangents, and her actions, which are often "illogical" and not the "right" thing to do by business or societal standards. Right brained thinkers are big picture and non–linear. They are moved by creative actions rather than logical planning. Putting Gaga into any kind of a cage will do nothing but hamper what she will become.Thats why my preference is for her to just do what she wants as she wants it. I want to see her artistic soul. Sure, there are some things I'd love to see her do, but I mostly enjoy following the ARTIST Lady Gaga, not the commercial pop singer who tries to appease labels or the public. Let the girl be free. Alien Tulip 12,428
I agree but at the same time if she wants to be fully free with no restrictions she should leave her label and perhaps establish a new one but unfortunately she has a contract with Interscope. I sometimes think that Gaga really wants to do an album of a mix of stripped back pop music along with acoustic songs and a more raw unplugged type of vibe to it. Even her look is somewhat controlled by her team to an extent. I think if it were all up to Gaga, she would release music similar to the music she made during her late teen/early 20s such as Wonderful, Master Heartbreaker, Rockshow, etc and she will have long brown hair like she did before. I think that's why she was really happy during the cheek to cheek era was because she was able to be free to have her natural brunette hair and sort of go back to her roots in which she originally started off as a jazz musician. She also stated in this interview that she feels like pouring out her pain in her acting now which is interesting but also kinda sad that she doesn't feel the freedom to do so in her music but I don't necessarily think her doing a more upbeat album is going to make her melancholy or depressed, she'll twist it up to make sure it's not a typical commercial pop album. To be quite frank all of her albums from The Fame to ARTPOP were all pretty unique compared to the other pop albums released during their release years. I would love for Gaga to release an album that is pure her but it's also confusing because she says things that sort of contradict her previous statements. Gaga is a complicated person which isn't a bad thing but more so confusing and it has to do with her constantly changing her mind and getting new inspiration/ideas. giskardsb 12,565
Changing her mind, constant evolution, restlessness doing the same things, and self contradiction caused by all that is part of what extreme right brain people deal with. Society usually calls them "eccentric" or crazy. People here misinterpret it as pretension sometimes. It's just part of the way her brain works. Its no accident papa Joe gave her the nickname "loopy". :)
Didymus 34,379
Bs.Nobody put her in a cage. People were already calling her avant-garde outfits boring and predictable in 2010 and she had every opportunity to switch it up and change her image, but she didn't and in fact she herself chose to bury herself in it even more. The ugly truth of the matter is that the public has been dying for Gaga to do something different and she disappointed everyone but her fans by doing the exact same thing over and over again, ultimately leading to the conclusion that she actually was no interesting artist - a conclusion that Gaga pretends was already made by the public despite her artistic efforts which is BULL.I'm really tired of Gaga blaming everything on a hilariously generalized "people/public" when she should remember that an artist fundamentally has control over the perception of her audience. She knew that during The Fame, where she said she was consciously projecting ideas on to the world and would switch things up as soon as people thought they pinned her down - but she never did until 2014 and with 2014 started the excuses. Ridiculous.
Sister 9,907
I agree and do not wish to cage Gaga, not in the least. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
