Idk, what he said wasn't smart, especially how he said it, but I don't think he's necessarily wrong.

Just because tragedies like this happen doesn't mean the rest of us get less rights. The second amendment doesn't disappear because a sick individual committed a heinous crime. And even if we made all guns illegal to own tomorrow, mad men would still be able to go out and purchase them on the black market. Weed and c-----e and other d--gs are also illegal and we spend billions of dollars trying to suppress that market and thousands of people still buy and use illegal d--gs every single day. To say that we can change an entire culture of violence just by making something illegal is so simple minded and short sighted.

Nobody is trying to make owning guns illegal. Simple gun control reform NEEDS to be put in place though. Like President Obama said, we are the only civilized nation where mass shootings like this continue to occur on a regular basis. SOMETHING needs to change.

For sure but you can still try to make gun regulation stricter and educate people on the long run so their first reflex when they have a tough time and "**** happens" isn't to shot what is around them.

It's not a matter of one sick individual, it is an epidemic of mass murders. At this point any solution offered, no matter how radical, would not be an impulsive fix, it would be a delayed reaction.

There are lots of reasons why America could be facing this unique problem. Perhaps it's the accessibility of guns, perhaps it's our medical institutions not prioritizing mental health, perhaps it's a cultural malaise that breeds indifference, maybe we are seeing the side effects of a generation of kids who were force fed antidepressants their entire life, maybe it's a combination of all of those things, we just don't know. But until we know, perhaps the second amendment should disappear, it has out lived it's usefulness, the British are not coming back.

You certainly do have a lot of people trying to say it was Obama's plan to do it. You'd think that was a joke but no, people are really that stupid.

There are people that believe Obama, the "muslim that wants to see the downfall of America" had one of his "Jihad buddies" go kill a bunch of Christians to divert attention from straining relations with Iran and Russia.

Conservatives and Republicans in this country have to be the most mentally absent and moronic bunch to have ever walked the planet.

Haha oh my god genuinely very few people think Obama set up these mass shootings.

However there are still scores (thousands, dare I say millions) of left-leaning people in this country that think Bush was behind the 9/11 attacks.

I really think you have a problem with perspective maybe. There are a lot of crazy conservatives that say ridiculous things but you also have to keep in mind that our radical right-wing party is faaar less radical than say the UK's or many many other developed nations, and they have less power here really. At least we don't have neo-nazi right wing groups that pop up in this country like they still do in Europe (like in Greece and Germany over the refugee crisis).

So no, our political right-wingers might be radical and insane but they surely aren't the worst and they surely aren't as bad as you make them out to be.

Here a question for you. Tell me again how effect the "banning" of any good and service that was once a legal practice in America has ever gone. Get back to me on that.

I'm gonna also refer you back to the comment I just replied to. Banning something isn't the solution. We've never been able to effectively ban any good or service that was once apart of the legal market. Black/shadow markets always occur, they're less regulated, they're untaxed, and they could put firearms in the hands of really really really bad people. And that point when you make guns illegal you can FORGET about background checks buddy.

Also... good luck amending the second amending the freakin Bill of Rights hahahaha

The Bill of Rights is not an infallible holy text, it should be burned and re-written whenever we set fit.

The whole point of having a constitution is to create a country in which people share very similar views on political culture on to ensure your rights even if that culture changes. That is why it is so hard to amend the Constitution. As a major in political science, I do not believe amending the Bill of Rights will ever be possible in this country.

And for your comment about how the british aren't coming, this current administration has used drone strikes to kill americans without trial. So yeah.

Every constitution, then, and every law, naturally expires at the end of nineteen years. If it be enforced longer, it is an act of force, and not of right. - Jefferson

And I promise, had Anwar al-Awlaki and his son had shot guns, the drones would have still killed them. Unless you are advocating that private citizens be able to own military style drones and tanks, good luck fighting against the greatest military force the world has ever known with your hand guns.

That's a quote of Jefferson you pulled from God-knows-where and might I remind you it has no legal weight whatsoever. He also wrote volumes of books explaining why black men and woman are inherently inferior to whites. So, yeah.

And the point is, is that the 2nd Amendment was written such that all Americans have the right to protect their property, as explain by the United States Supreme Court.

So your abandoning your previous line of reasoning, that we need guns to protect ourselves against the government?

He have his opinion, it might not be the right one.

Personally I think that is quite irresponsible.

Ha you'd think so. Then you go on facebook and read thousands of comments about people calling him "King Barrack Osama" and making ridiculous claims that he's trying to take away Americans' freedom.

My perspective is fine. I see a problem and I want it fixed. Just because our right leaning and some left leaning politicians aren't as bad as they could be doesn't mean that we should just grin and bear it. That's like not treating cancer until it's terminal.

As long as there are idiots in this country that think their religious beliefs trump the constitution, I'll be speaking against them. As long as there are billionaires who believe that trickle down economics work, I'll be speaking against them. As long as there are morons who just want to shoot down others' ideas on how to solve a problem but not offer and valid or intelligent answers of their own, I'll be pissed off and continue to speak out against them.

*inhale* I'm not dismissing the idiots on the left either, but at least they're on the right side of history...not including the crack pot conspiracy theorists. "Jet fuel can't melt steel beams."

No??? It was written such that Americans could protect their property from the government and other citizens trying to take it.
